"It's more complex than CP"
Yesterday, we had a neurologist consult for the first time ever, so naturally I was nervous about the unknown. For a while, therapists have been commenting that Braveheart shows signs of Cerebral Palsy however he shows a bizarre combination of low tone and spasticity... But apparently the tightening of his muscles seem all voluntary. When we mentioned the suspicion of CP, the neurologist said "oh no, it's more complex than CP". 😮 We learned a new term from the neurologist: sensory ataxia (**swipe left for more info from eyeandear.org). The neurologist seems to think his movements and lack of coordination are related to sensory ataxia. Then there's the Autism Spectrum Disorder piece, the Congenital Heart Defect, the possible effects from being on bypass twice, from sedation, etc... And biggest of all, his genetic difference. So he's delayed but expected to thrive and is making progress for sure! Just slower than the norm.
His rare genes are something I never discuss here because... Well I didn't want to discuss it. But it seems diving into genetics may or may not be the next step in our journey. What we do know: there are no other documented cases of his exact genetic mutation. It may or may not be related to the signs we see in Braveheart. I'm not going to publicly announce the exact genetic mutation but I just want to bring awareness to the fact that there are genetic conditions out there in which there is no scientific or medical background (yet). He's in a few studies so hopefully that will help any cases that come up in the future!
At this point we have a lot to process and a lot of decisions to make, but we are happy to have learned that nothing seems to be neurologically wrong based on what the doctor observed! She'd like us to hold off on an MRI for now but thinks it would be "interesting to see" what his brain looks like. (I'm curious too!) I'm just grateful for a happy, energetic, quirky toddler. Mystery and all!

Herbie's Big Adventure by Jennie Poh is one of our favorite fall books of all time. Ever since it was published in 2016 by Curious Fox, an imprint of Capstone Global Library Limited, we have had a copy on our shelf and we keep recommending it as much as we can. Not only is it a fantastic story about courage, growth and adventure, it is also so gorgeously illustrated that you will find it hard to put it down again. [Unpaid ad]

I started a DMP with StepChange in March. My partner didn’t start full-time employment until May. I then left my part-time job to be a full time mum in July.
Why am I telling you this? Well I realised recently I’ve never worked out EXACTLY how much debt we were in before we started to make a mends and before StepChange. We only ever sent our credit cards to StepChange everything else we’ve tried to restore ourselves so I can’t even go by that figure alone.
Anyway, it was around £60,000. 😭😨 We make a payment of £417 to StepChange every month, at some months it’s been more even closer to £1,000 at times and we’ve tried to clear as much as everything else off as well as LIVE. (I called this the come back year for a reason 😂) Last year was ROUGH it was drowning upon more drowning. If I were to have started the DMP earlier I probably could have saved on a WHOLE load of interest as well as many other things but I try to no longer dwell. I make it no secret I’m not going to be debt free anytime soon, in fact I currently don’t even have a year. I set up small goals and mark any success that way.
Almost 4 months ago I set up a plan of action to try and clear the final amount off StepChange - £7,228.80. This was both our overdrafts, HMRC repayment & another debt. We have changed the plan SO many times I’ve lost count. We have now cleared our overdrafts (£3,500) and are hoping to clear HMRC end of this month but have since added a new (sort of) debt - sperm storage (£300), which we are also hoping to clear this month.
We’ll be left with £2,000 of debt and one payment before target date is up. Unfortunately, as it stands we aren’t looking to clear this in time.
However, we’ll come close. Since March we have somehow managed to clear over £20,000 of debt. We don’t owe anyone money. Nobody owes us money. We’ve had many family days out. We have cash flowed a holiday to Disneyland Paris. We have cleared both our overdrafts. We paid our car insurance in full. We haven’t taken out any credit. By the end of this month we’ll have paid HMRC off and the sperm storage.
I think I (or maybe we all) need to take a step back sometimes and realise JUST how far we’ve come💫

We stayed in a lovely hotel in Scotland and the kids where just in love with these old books 📚
I’ve had a few new followers recently so thought now might be the right opportunity to introduce myself properly 👋🏼 I’m Laura @that_mummy_smile and these 3 boys are my everything. Im 36, Sagittarian (my birthday is in 2 weeks😜) and my husband @papatye and I are born and bred Londoners. Harry is 10 and Stanley is 5 (any good Xmas pressie suggestions very much welcome PLEASE!).
My blogging journey began 5 years ago when Stanley was born and I wanted to start writing to use my brain again, and share the things I love/ my experiences/ thoughts etc. You’ll always find the link to my blog in my bio- which I update with my most recent feature.
I write about things that I’m passionate about, things that mean something to me and the adventures.
One thing you’ll get to know about me through these squares is the love I have for my family❤️. Those that have been with me for the long haul will hopefully tell you I’m everything I say I am. What you see is me, with no smoke and mirrors.
You may hear me talk about my depression & mental health, see me painting @wreathartbylaura watch our #goteamutherford days out, my love for fashion and my fellow mahoooosive family of love bugs #hamesfamily7 🥰
In addition to these of course there will be the odd AD because this is where my influencer journey has taken me and I’m fortunate enough to call it my work. So whether you’re a ‘swipe swiftly away’ kinda follower or a ‘double-tap’ kinda follower, please remember the hustle is real and I do what I do for my family just as you do. At times it’s feast or famine but we’d have it no other way.
I hope you stick along for the ride xx 🥰 #whatyouseeiswhatyouget#thisisme#familyoffour#mumblogger#pblogger#fblogger#lifestyleblogger#instamum
Yesterday I went to @macbraeheadglasgow in @intubraehead to attend a mums on the move class with the lovely @___kellyspence . The class was brilliant for learning about their products and the new collection they have out which is AMAZING 😍. The highlighters are to die for and the mini lip kit is amazing for night outs as it fits in your bag perfectly. .
When I went to the class it was myself and 3 other ladies. Two had children with them and the other lady didn't and neither did I as Zara was in nursery so my full attention was on the tutrioal.
They had a mixture of clothes from @kiddieboutique there aswell and I have fell in love with this Westie dress as its the same dogs as my parents have. .
At the end of the class we were all gifted a goody bag which omg is amazing I did not expect to get soooo much and I'm so greatful 😍. Zara will be really happy when we get to try out the softplay too with our free pass as I've not tried that one yet ❤️
This little boy has been so spoilt over the last 2 days with more to come tomorrow. Seeing how much people love and care for him melts my heart and to see how much love he has to give makes me so proud. I can’t believe we a one year old and I still can’t believe how perfect he is💙
On Thursday afternoon my car broke down so I’m going to be without it likely most of this week! Definitely puts a stop to some plans I’ve mine!
What are you up to today?
We don’t have much planned at all, I did finish the kitchen yesterday but you will have to wait to see that 🙈😍
Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow 🎄. It’s so easy to lose contact with your besties with all that’s going on at work & home so this weekend has been truly wonderful! We have had it booked for about a year as our friend sammy flies down from Edinburgh for it & was worth the wait! In the days we have been swimming & exploring & at night the babes go to bed & we have had takeaway & wine & caught up on everyone’s lives! Quality time with your best ones is precious & so needed, would highly recommend - would also recommend the @georgeatasda matching pjs absolutely adorable!! Got arran a pair as well 🥰 #besties#bestfriends#happy#weekend#mumblogger#mumsofinstagram#family#friends#christmas
We’ve been out all day Christmas shopping! Finally feeling like we’re getting there. I’ve not bought a lot this year as I feel Ellis is still a wee bit too little to understand. Next year is when I’ll definitely go mental. 🙄 He’s just been so content and fast asleep in his new pram all while we were out. He’s so unwell it breaks my heart. After going to the doctors TWICE and being fobbed off, I had had enough yesterday and took him again to see a different doctor. Turns out he DOES have a chest infection! 🙃 Unfortunately theres nothing they can give him, so it’s just lots of kisses and cuddles for elli bean. 🥺 I’m off home for a few weeks Monday so we’ve decided to put the Christmas tree up before I go so we don’t have to rush about when I get back. It was so lovely doing it with Ellis watching - and we put the star on the tree together. I took a time lapse of it all which I’ll keep for forever and ever! 💖
Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Are your decorations up yet or too early? 🙄😂
Christmas has officially begun in this house and we are super happy about it! We absolutely love Christmas so we like to stretch it out as much as we can! Estelle was so excited to decorate her new little tree and of course Baby June had to join in too 💜 Look at our girls 😍

. #blog#blogger#blogueuse#frenchblogger#marine_509#marin_509#mamanconnectee#lesmamansconnectees#familyfirst#mamanblogueuse#mumblogger#welcomefamily#familink#kidsplace @agenceetycom

Juggling the work life balance....? Queens, I feel you. It is so hard!
I’m writing this with the glazed eyes of an exhausted mother and I know you guys can relate. .
It is not lost on me how lucky I am! This year I have received the most wonderful gift having my little IVF miracle Mario and I’m grateful every single day! I have my own little business which means I’m able to pick my own work hours, and I only have to work 3 days a week. Its prefect. I get to spend the rest of the time with my beautiful boy and amazing hubby! We live a great life! .
However the struggle is still real. Yesterday I woke up with a heavy head and my eye lids felt like they had weights attached. I unwillingly got out of bed, dressed, and fed Mario before heading to work for a full 10 hours on my feet! As Leon works evenings so I had to collect Mario from grandmas and I didn’t get home until 7:30! Obviously I had to do the little mans bath (no one wants a shitty baby 😂), bedtime routine and mummy duties all by my little self!! Mario as you can see in the photo didn’t want to sleep, he wanted to hang his limbs out of his cot and shout, so I didn’t sit down till after 9pm! The house was literally upside down (it still is 🙈) and I hadn’t eaten properly since that morning but I was too tired to make myself any dinner! Today has been much the same and I’m sat here again starving my tits off but unable to move off my sofa. .
I know that there are women out there that have it so much harder than I do and they also do it all by themselves!! Those people are literally beyond amazing, I admire them! We should all be those people! I don’t know how they do it!! .
How do you guys balance the working mum life!? .
For now I’m just going to crawl into a corner and rock until my sanity returns!
Now of course we have still had to deal with tantrums and meltdowns and upset kids and angry kids and overtired kids, snotty noses and dirty bums, cooking, clothing and all the other fun stuff that comes with being a parent but honestly I am just on cloud 9.
There's something about being away that makes my heart happy, I think everyone knows that if I'd had it my way we wouldn't have returned from travelling earlier in the year, I'm just so happy when we are away and it fills me from the inside out with the most serene and happy feelings.
There's no stress in my head to deal with. We aren't rushing to keep to some schedule or some appointment, I'm not worrying about work or bills or social media, we aren't surrounded by mess and tons of things we don't need. I am much calmer and able to be fully present which means when anything stressful does happen I am able to tackle it with a cool, calm and collected approach and the kids respond to that so well.
I'm all for positive vibes and I can feel them radiating off me here. I feel my best self when I'm away. So this week I am going to keep doing what as I have done today. Be fully present in every moment, completely appreciate how blessed we are and feel gratitude for it all. I can sit in a big, bubbly, hot bath with the door fully locked and enjoy 40 minutes peace guilt free.
Now all the kids are asleep and me and hubby are getting to enjoy a movie without getting interrupted a 100 times! 😍

London Marathon training has started! 🏃🏼♀️ 🏃🏼♀️ But when I say started, I mean I went on an incredibly slow 30 minute run (walk) and have just demolished a tub of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream 😖😖😖
I have purchased new kit. I have no idea what I’m buying or what I am doing, but I’m doing it 😂
Question though. Running in the dark. I need a head torch right? There’s no other clever kit that I don’t know about that would light the way is there?
All help and advice would be appreciated.
I am running for @headway_uk and I’d really appreciate your donations to a cause that means so much to me. Click on the link in my bio for more details. Thank you 😘

Dinner tonight was Thai green curry made with chicken breast, onion, carrot, sweet potato and spinach (free and speed), in a sauce using a blue dragon green curry paste pot (3 syns for the whole pot), some chicken stock (free) and a can of reduced fat coconut milk (14.5 syns). I then split into 6 portions making this 3 syns / 190kcal per portion.
I served with boiled rice (free) and garlic and coriander naan bread (18 syns lolllllll) meaning it’s all came to 21 syns or 774kcal

Before entering this journey of #motherhood , I had no idea how hard it would be. Our mothers for generations made this job look so seamlessly easy. I remember the first few weeks of Hannah's life, I found this journey to be SO difficult. I did not know what I was doing (still sometimes don't know) and I would cry when Hannah cried. 🙈 I remember thinking to myself if I was doing something wrong. Was I made for this role?
I spoke to other mothers, and shared my sentiments. The feelings I felt were not just my own, but a struggle every mother I spoke to faced. We came to a conclusion. Motherhood is hard. Suddenly I did not feel so alone.
It is so easy for our older desi generation to dismiss the hardships a new mother goes through. The amount of times I heard, "Sab Maa ban te hain, kuch naya kaam nahi kari ho (Everyone becomes a mother, you aren't doing anything new)." This sort of mentality can be so detrimental to someone who needs a helping hand, a little support, and some love.
The days went by, one sleepless night after the other, and alhamdulilah, it got easier. I am a now a pro at those one handed diaper changes, nursing while sleeping, and I don't cry when Hannah cries (ok fine, sometimes I do)🙈😂. All in all, I am SO grateful for this journey, and it truly taught me to appreciate Mothers, Motherhood, and support new Mamas.
Islamically, motherhood is a powerful reminder of an important life principle. Raising a child requires a lot of sacrifice, hard work, and 24/7 devotion. The physical, mental, and emotional aspects really strains a woman. Despite all that we go through, God gives mothers a superpower: an unwordly amount of love, mercy and compassion for their child. God loves us 70 times more than our mothers and He does not burden a soul with anything they cannot bear. When Allah gives you a challenge, He also gives you the tools to handle it. 💖
To all Mamas out there, you are doing an amazing job and I hope for those new mamas finding it hard, know that you are not alone. Each day, it gets better. On that note, I hope you have a happy Friday. Jummah Mubarak. 💫🤗

Our daily afternoon walks made easier by @ergobabyuk omni 360 carrier. I We’ve been enjoying our autumn strolls lately. A few laps in this and Amari drifts off. He usually hates being in the pram but happily sits in this without any moaning. The best part about this carrier is it can be used for newborn to toddler without infant insert and it’s so versatile. You can wear the baby front facing in or out, wear on the hip or on the back. .
