I visited NYC (New York City) on Tuesday and went to purchase a bottle of #wine on Lexington Ave. I wanted to honor the hostess I was going to meet in person for the first time in NYC and behold the first bottle I saw was this bottle of #ChateauMontelena .
I won't give the story away just encourage you to see it. It changed the world in the wine industry. Opening up the doors across the world and most likely one of the reasons you may drinking wine from other countries.
Our return to Napa featured a visit to one of our favorite wineries (Hall Wines) and a picture in front of the iconic bunny at the entrance. We were so thrilled to experience the #napavalley last week and we will be back!
Have you tried our pumpkin bagel? If not, you have two weeks left! This version pairs well with both sweet and savory; not the typical sweet pumpkin spice latte flavor while being a little salty from the toasted pepita seeds on the outside.
We would like to wish Kathy a very Happy Birthday today! Kathy is such an integral part of our team juggling a multitude of positions within our winery infrastructure. If you see Kathy today, help us wish her a “funtastic” day!
Meet Thomas Arvid @sydentelgalleries November 1st⠀
Arvid's approach to wine and painting is surprising, given his background as a Detroit native raised to parlay his inherent artistic talent into a secure job in the industrial complex. Instead, Arvid made the leap into pursuing his art as a career, and with the support of his art historian wife and inspiration garnered during a backpacking trip through Europe, he began painting full time.⠀
Drawn to wine by his focus on the color red, Arvid knew he had discovered something when his paintings featuring red wine were being purchased before they were finished. Arvid is awed by the response to his work, "Wine is a great subject because people are familiar with it; they really connect to it. My paintings are really the landscapes between people sharing wine – it's amazing that my collectors find personal fulfillment in my work, especially when I'm just doing what I love."⠀

I tried so many off my bucket list wines in one night with great company @hide_restaurant
@dominio_delaguila#Albillo vs #CocheDury#Meursault to start. Without a question, the spanish white from #ribeiradelduero was the best white wine of the night. Textured with aromas developing in glass from petrol and turpentine to nutty marzipan, it stood out. #coche was good but lacked a shine to it. It didn't have the classic coche reductive thing that my friends said was a key characteristic. It also didn't develop in the glass enough which is what I wanted.
When the reds rolled out, the party started. Burgundy battle with #MugneretGibourg#ClosVougeot vs @lucienlemoine#2013 was a great comparison. The MG started quite reductive, but blew off after an hour or so. I preferred the MG as I think the strawberry and dark cherry notes were a bit more forward and crunchy and the acidity was beautiful in the finish. The lucien was decanted early on and developed nicely, but I wanted more fruit in the front. I think it might need more time in bottle to come in to its own.
We then moved to blind tasting big reds. #WOTN was definitely the @josephphelps#insignia#1987 . Not only is it my birth year wine, it was singing in the best of ways. Smoke, dark cherries and black fruits, a rich finish that reminded me of pomerol in a weird way. Would have sworn it was merlot if the cab sauv wasn't prominent on the nose. Truth was #napa . Others at the table were leaning towards late 90s cabernet from left bank. The youth of the wine blew me away.
Second up was the @ridgevineyards#RidgeMontebello#1995 guesses around the table were left bank bordeaux from 90s or earlier, and it had enough of the graphite character I associate with cab franc. Really stumped me. Finish was medium + at best, but the the fruit and mid palate were very moorish.
Red Mare Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 🇺🇸 🍷 ——————————————————————————
After working for four years as assistant winemaker at Paradigm for Heidi Barrett, one of the world’s renowned winemakers, Anne Vawter opened her winemaking consultancy with support and encouragement from Heidi, whose referrals now make up Anne's client list. Shortly after, Anne began her own venture with Partner Jim Striegel - Red Mare Wines. An avid horse woman, Anne named her wine label in honor of her red mare, Paradigm, who was a bonus given to her during her time at Paradigm Winery. The inaugural release of Red Mare Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 vintage, sold out in just two months. In addition to her Cabernet Sauvignon, Anne also produces a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and added a Sonoma Chardonnay in the 2011 vintage. Red Mare Wines sources fruit meticulously from very small, well-respected vineyards throughout the Napa Valley, from a cool enclave of the Carneros to a hill top in Coombsville, and northward on the Valley floor in Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena
Notes: 86.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah & the rest Malbec & Petit Verdot. My initial impression of this was that it was a little hot from the alcohol. On the palate, there are aromas of oak, vanilla, and tobacco. These flavors persist, along with slight raisin flavors and cherries among other dark fruits

Harlan Estate, 2003.
