This is Kumbu, a nomadic woman who migrates to the lowland valleys of central Bhutan during the cold winter months. She lives in the high elevation mountains most of the year, but during winter isn’t able to graze her yaks. The lowlands aren’t without their dangers, though; just yesterday she lost 2 of her baby yaks to a pack of wild dogs.
A group of archers watch to see if the arrow hit its target. Archery is the national sport of Bhutan, and is played both socially and competitively. Here, a group of men in traditional clothes play in a public park in the Tang Valley.
