'Church on The Spilled Blood, St. Petersburg, Russia’, 2009.
Photographed with a Graflex XL camera onto original Polaroid Type 669 film.
Made in the dead of a Russian winter in January, with about six hours of daylight per day. During this ten day trip to work on my long term project ‘An Enduring Grace’, I recall seeing the sun come out for a grand total of less than ten minutes one day. This was a rare color image made while detesting the cold at about 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes, I hate being cold, but willingly chose to photograph there to see if it might bring something different out in my process. It pretty much just made me unhappy, but I was entranced by the beauty of the snow covered landscape in the city.
This past trip was my ninth time driving across the USA, and I was pretty stoked to finally visit some beautiful places that I’d never been before: the Wind River Range, Tahoe, and Lassen Volcanic National Park. It brings me a lot of joy to experience a new place for the first time.
I took this photo in Lassen. The geology and landscape of that park is mind-blowing.
I hiked up Cinder Cone volcano to take a good look down into the crater and out at the surrounding lava fields. Then I sped over to Manzinita Lake to catch this view of the alpenglow burning orange and pink on the mountains at sunset.
It was definitely an experience I’ll remember. I covered 7,500 miles going coast to coast, and it made me think about how huge and varied the landscape of this country is, and how many places I’d still like to see someday.

And in the end maybe it doesn't matter what mountain we decide to climb. Maybe, what matters the most is that we were brave enough to start ✨
Photos by @giuliogroebert all over Europe! I like sharing a collection of a photographers work. I think it’s more interesting than just 1 image from their travels, when they have hundreds, if not thousands of amazing posts, from all over.
