Competition in the music business is fierce these days so Karen & the Sorrows offers a country quality certificate with their third album Guaranteed Broken Heart. Inclusive stories of loss, grief and heartbreak delivered beautifully by fronter Karen Pittelman and her new string band. Beautiful is a beautiful word currently kinda kidnapped by another, less inclusive, New Yorker but Pittelman reclaims it with her fabulous country hymns. Karen was a sad songwriter at three and kept channeling her thoughts and emotions through punk and queercore before getting snatched by country music. Pittelwoman manages to be simultaneously classic and progressive in her exquisite, self-produced songs. She dreams her songs and she dreams of wrongs. Determined to challenge the discriminating status quo of the country music industry and building a community for the sided ones. Pittelman inherited three million dollars and donated it all to the benefit of girls from low-income homes. With her lilting, partonic voice and delicately layered songs Karen and her sorrows also just donated us all a late contender for album of the year.

During my drive back from Washington, DC - the route took me on many scenic country views. As I got to NY state - the sun started to set down and the beauty of the landscape was enhanced. I parked the car (conventely located tourist parking lot) and started taking pictures.
Many ayah's in the Quran speak about the beauty of God's creation, one of which was discussed today at #quranjourney in Surah Taha
"To him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil"
We have so many freedoms and advantages in this country that we take for granted... we overlook the small, simple things and forget to appreciate them.
Today I am grateful. Grateful to have moments like this: yesterday morning watching the sun take its place in the sky while my horses eat and the birds chirp with no worries... grateful for the life I live.
Good morning from the Franklin Guest House! As we tug ourselves out of Sunday slumber, drinking espresso with thick foamy milk and getting ready to make French Toast, we’re wondering what all of you have planned for breakfast this beautiful morning🌞! What are your plans today? We’ll be heading a block over to the first Farmers Market of the season, then see where our legs take us after that. Hope to see you there!
