On our way to Luxmore hut I saw a cool frozen little pond, tried to break the ice with my hiking pole to test it but it was too thick. So as @findingmybearing was observing from a distance, he told me to step on it. Don't ask me why but I did it with no hesitation and you can imagine the rest lol 😅
18 km uphill carrying 20ish kg in our backpacks were worth it for a sunset like this. It was supposed to be a 4 day hike but unfortunately, a big part of the track still had a thick layer of snow on it and there was a pretty high avalanche risk so we just spent a cozy night cuddled in our sleeping bags next to the fireplace at the hut and hiked back down the next morning. Honestly, idk what's worse going uphill or downhill when you're carrying a lot of weight. We'll be back soon to tramp (as kiwis say) aka hike the whole thing and check off one of the 10 great walks of New Zealand!
What's your favorite hike in the world? And what's worse: hiking uphill or downhill? 😂

Summer's round the corner but I'll miss this time in the snow with @brycestacker!
So I opted to go with Abseiling in the rain 300 meters down into The Lost World when we rolled into Waitomo to go see the glow worms....such an amazing experience with 1 small exception... The intro picture of the Glowworms 🐛is quite deceiving as there were not nearly that many glow worms where we were taken. I was definitely duped by google and expected so much more... I was quite excited to get this experience as New Zealand is the only place in the world that has these wonderful creatures.... It intrigues me how we are sold an image of how something will be online and on Instagram 😳 and you never quite know until you experience it for yourself if it’s legit or not.... I will be honest in saying that I was expecting a magic show with luminescent blue lights strewn across the ceiling like the 🌌 galaxy or something, however I was presented with random spatters of light in a very centralized location.... no outside photography is allowed so I wasn’t able to document it.
Thankfully the abseiling and canyoning was a good time and the guides were kickass🤙🏻 just a word to the wise, do further research on the other Glowworm spots alternatives before painting a picture in your head and end up a little disappointed like I did.
There are other areas to view them and even areas that are free.
