So Nissan India has at last pulled out a nice and neat little trick from its hat. They’re calling it the HR13 DDT! A scorcher of an engine co-developed with Diamler (read Mercedes) and now being plonked under the hood of their midsize cross over (kicks) in India. The engine is so good that Mercedes has decided that it will stop using its very own 1.5 litre mill and replace it with this 1.3 litre wonder. The turbo charged engine belts out impressive power figures (156bhp and 254nm torque) making it the most powerful vehicle in its class. Well, I really do hope this will positively impact Nissan’s flagging sales numbers in India. #nissanindia#nissankicks#carsofinsta#nissan#carindia#mercedesengine#automotiveenthusiast
Japanese automaker Nissan made their entry into the Indian car market with launch of X-Trail SUV in January 2004. The starting price of X-Trail was around Rs 19.8lakh in 2004 and was introduced in two variants - Elegance and Comfort. It was imported from Japan as CBU and was sold through Nissan dealers in four major cities. As compared to Honda's CR-V, the X-Trail's interior looked quite boring back in the day due to its centrally mounted instrument panel and ugly looking four-spoke steering wheel. In actual, the X-Trail really failed to attract Indian customers mainly because of the absence of Nissan's sales and service network in many states. Though an updated version came later in 2009, it didn't help them much in improving sales as more capable SUVs like Fortuner and Pajero SFX were available in the market at the same price point.
The 2004 X-Trail had a 2.2-litre diesel unit that used a variable nozzle turbocharger and an intercooler assembly. This engine developed an agreeable 134bhp at 4000rpm and all of 31.7kgm of torque at barely 2000 clicks. Like the old gen Honda CR-V, X-Trail too used to have an electronically controlled AWD system. Ride quality was comparable to that of luxury sedans as it used McPherson struts at front and a unique parallel-link strut setup at the rear for suspension duties. In the 2009 update, the 2.2-litre diesel engine was replaced by a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel engine that was capable to develop a peak power of 150bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox too was provided that was an unique offering in its class.

Nissan’s upcoming sub-4m SUV likely to be named Magnite.
India launch expected by September 2020.
Petrol-only offering with two engines on offer.
Most powerful turbo-petrol would get a CVT automatic option.
Prices to begin from around Rs 5.5 lakh.
As expected, the Magnite will be a petrol-only SUV like its other Renault-Nissan siblings. Engine options could be a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated unit, same as the Triber (72PS/96Nm), mated to a 5-speed manual. The other unit could be a 1.0-litre turbo that’s likely to belt out 100PS. It is expected to get the option of a CVT along with a manual.
Some of the expected features include 360-degree camera support, remote engine start, large touchscreen, four airbags, and a digital instrument cluster. Nissan is unlikely to miss out on a sunroof given that most of the SUVs in the segment offer one.

The Kicks and Karoq are positioned in different segments and they cannot be compared, their pricing and performance figures do worth a look at. Despite costing less than half the price of the Karoq, the Kicks is 6 PS more powerful and develops 4 Nm higher torque. This makes the Kicks a compelling offering for budget conscious buyers but the official top speed and 0-100 kmph time is yet unknown and we believe the Karoq can better the Kicks in both aspects.
