I'd like to take an opportunity to raise a bit of awareness for something that is affecting people here locally. Sadly, my home city of Hereford is severely flooded at the moment. One of the worst in its history. Water levels are at their highest here in 200 years. Today there have been more than 600 flood warnings and flood alerts in place across England – more than any other day on record. My city was on the national news earlier because it's been the worst hit in the country. Today I saw entire fields that are now lakes. The park I walk through regularly looks like an ocean, and there are bridges that are completely submerged and/or facing structural integrity issues. People are being evacuated from their homes as the streets have essentially turned into rivers. Crazy stuff. What worries me is that there's supposedly another two storms on the way. But with all that said..
The Herefordshire Community Foundation and the Hereford Times have teamed up to launch an appeal fund to support victims of the floods caused by Storm Dennis. Their priority in the immediate aftermath of the floods will be to provide immediate straightforward financial support to people affected by the floods to help with urgent needs such as the costs of living in temporary accommodation, or items to people so they could stay in their homes such as costs of running dehumidifiers. .
You can find out more about it, along with information on how to donate over at: www.herefordshirecf.org I'll post a link in the story timeline, but I wanted to do my best to raise awareness of it here too.

Strauss - Die Fledermaus- Ouverture #day71
I need a teacher!
Who does need a diligent student?
Hi guys!! I’m back...after a LONG break 😳 .
I don’t usually like posting videos of myself playing because I lack a bit of confidence so I thought it was time to change that :) .
Here is a bit of Prokofiev! I’m not where I want to be yet—however, I’m getting there slowly but surely! I need to focus more on producing a brilliant sound (rather than a fast one) and try to keep the overall feel a lot more relaxed :) .
Thanks for reading/listening, and here’s to being back!! 😄
Meet Queen City Opera Principal Oboe, Austin Smith:
Oboe Instructor at the University of Mississippi, Austin freelance with many different orchestras and also makes oboe reeds professionally for Innoledy, a high-end woodwind instrument dealer based in Manhattan.
His latest hobby is playing with his recently adopted 😺, Shuri. During his free time, he enjoys hiking, board games, and video games.
Despite being based in Mississippi, he continues to travel back to Cincinnati for QCO. "Having grown up in the Cincinnati area, I still feel a very strong connection with the music community here and the artistic vision of QCO. It's a joy for me to come back to be a part of these productions because the quality of the orchestra and overall artistic product is so high."
Our upcoming production of Fidelio will be his 13th production with QCO!
All-state was was fun asf and also my first time playing in a symphony orchestra!! Funny how no matter where I go, oboists continue to be the most welcoming and kind people I meet. I hope to see you all again♥️♥️ #oboe#symphony#symphonyorchestra#orchestra#band
Some Berlioz for my last practise at WAAPA! I feel like I’ve listened to myself play this excerpt so many times that I’m struggling to tell if my articulations and lengths are the same. Still one of my least favourite pieces ever.
