14 NEW FLIGHTS FROM ODISHA ON THE CARDS, BHUBANESWAR – PRAYAGRAJ FLIGHT TO BEGIN ON JULY 1, 2020
A high level meeting was conducted between CEOs of different airlines and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on January 22, 2020 in Bhubaneswar. It was addressed to operators & GoI to introduce new domestic & international flights to enhance connectivity from Odisha. The CM urged Ministry of Civil Aviation to introduce new connectivity from Odisha to destinations like Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kochi & Ranchi while highlighting demand for international hubs like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok & Colombo.
The CM said that there is a sizable tech-savvy diaspora in US, Middle East, Australia & SE Asia with growing demand for Skilled In Odisha professionals. The introduction of international flights will also provide convenience & comfort to the growing globetrotting middle class. The growing tourist interest in Odisha, rapid growth of sectoral economies and successful hosting of marquee sports events have propelled Brand Odisha, enhancing aspirations of people of Odisha to connect with the rest of the world.
Budget carrier IndiGo will commence operations from Bhubaneswar to Prayagraj with the launch of direct flight services from 1st July, 2020, informed Odisha Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy following the meeting. IndiGo has already announced to introduce flight services between Bhubaneswar and Varanasi from February 29.

Bose was a renowned Indian revolutionary, freedom fighter, and nationalist leader. The valiant leader refused to bow down to the Britishers during their regime over India. He is the creator of the slogan "Jai Hind". Netaji was among the first one to address Mahatma Gandhi as Father of the Nation, his birth day is celebrated to commemorate his unmatched partiotism and love for the country.
ODISHA RECOGNISED AS 2ND 'FASTEST MOVER STATE' IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS INDIA INDEX
In the second edition of the NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index, Odisha was awarded the 2nd fastest movers from 2018 to 2019. The index comprehensively documented the progress made by different States and Union Territories towards achieving the SDG targets in 2030. Odisha’s composite score improved from 51 in 2018 to 58 in 2019 showing noticeable progress in several categories.
In five categories, the State has been accorded the status of ‘Front Runner’ and as ‘Performer’ in six out of total 17 categories. Odisha has become ‘Front Runner’ in Clean Water and Sanitation (85), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (72), Reduced Inequality (69), Climate Action (69) and Life on Land (99) categories. The State scored 72 points & secured 4th Rank in 2019-20 report in the category of Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure.
THE NATION REMEMBERS ITS GREAT FREEDOM FIGHTERS ON THEIR BIRTH ANNIVERSARY, OUR HEROES VEER SURENDRA SAI AND NETAJI SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE
Two great freedom fighters of our nation were born on this day! Born on January 23 in the year 1809 in Odisha's Khinda village, Sambalpur, Veer Surendra Sai was an Indian freedom fighter who sacrificed his life fighting against the British East India Company. He is recognised in the history of India's struggle for independence and is affectionately called 'Bira' (or "Veer" meaning courageous) Surendra Sai.
On January 23, in the year 1897, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack, Odisha. Known for the slogan "Give me your blood, and I shall give you freedom", he served India as a valiant warrior and raised the first Indian National Army (INA), Azad Hind Fauj in 1943 and started an armed coup and inspired thousands of Indian youths to join the struggle for independence from the British colonial rule.
