On yıldır yaşadığım eve varmak için hala bilmediğim alternatif yollarım varmış
Looking back to 2007. This was a basic hostal we stayed in Campeche, Mexico.
Unfortunately the property wasn't in a good shape even back then. I think it is now closed. But as you can see it is a beautiful old building with high beamed ceiling, hanging lamps, and tiled floor. Because of these details I insisted on staying there. It was before the kid and with a pair of hammocks and a mosquito net we could sleep pretty much anywhere
Curious to know how things work.
Curious to understand the world as it is and as it was.
Curious to know about the land where I stood and who walked it before me.
As a kid, back in the days before the internet, I would pour over our set of encyclopedias, reading about people and geography and agriculture and battles and economics and animals. I really couldn’t get enough of them.
But I hated that the entries were so short.
I wanted to know the how. I wanted to know the why.
In 3rd grade, I frequently brought these questions to my teacher and she eventually told me that my curiosity was disruptive. I remember her saying I’d ‘find myself in a heap of trouble one day if I didn’t stop asking so many pointless questions.’ I guess they were pointless to her, but they certainly weren’t to me.
And here I am 27 years later and still asking too many questions but I’ll tell you this- being curious has led me on some of the most incredible adventures of my life.
Like the one I took this past weekend through parts of North Carolina and Virginia with 3 really awesome ladies. @dixiegypsy@diaryof_abandonment@southern_girl_dreaming and I rambled for 440 miles through some beautiful countryside and found so many old places that I’m kind of overwhelmed at the idea of processing the amount of awesome stuff we found.
It was being curious that led me to begin this project and gave me purpose.
That same curiosity that allowed me to be able to connect with all of you here.
The curiosity that helped me to make these awesome friends.
So look at me now, Mrs. Cohen!👋🏼 “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” -Einstein
