Ensaladilla Rusa.
ILY cherry much, door county. just hoping we don’t miss out on cherry picking season this year 🥺

GERMINADOR VERTICAL CASERO O HUERTA VERTICAL CASERA💚

Growing up in Jamaica on his father Noel’s farm, Edgar always knew that farming was in his blood. He is a legacy employee that started coming here with his dad when he was old enough, 12 seasons/years ago, and has been coming ever since! Farming and working on the land comes naturally to him and he prides himself on being an all-rounder”, who tries his best to learn everything. Having just returned for the year (in February), he is eager to get back to the trees and land he has helped shape with his own hands for almost half of his life. 🌳
I’m so glad that I am able to live in a place where my kids can roam around freely and I don’t have to worry about them going into the street. They have a wealth of trails and nature to explore and discover. There is an orchard in our backyard and it makes my heart sing to see them running and playing among the trees that where we will harvest fruit in the fall.
Also, life’s too short to save your fancy dresses for special occasions so when my five-year-old asks to play in her fancy dresses, the answer is *usually* yes!!
Leeds Museum and Gallery
📍🇬🇧 Lotherton is a beautiful Edwardian #estate on the outskirts of #Leeds . Vast grounds, delightful #gardens , an Edwardian hall and Wildlife World #zoo make Lotherton a #fantastic place for a #day out with the family. Lotherton was home to the Gascoignes from 1825 until the family gifted the estate to Leeds in 1968, the hall is a fine example of Edwardian and Victorian design. The grounds and gardens cover eight acres and include a walled garden, #woodlands , an #orchard and a red deer park and hide.
We planted fruit trees, berry and nut bushes, flower bulbs, and other permaculture plants on the south facing hill behind our home. This hill was already home to red buds, chestnuts, poplars, cypress, and forsythia. Our long term vision for this space is an abundant and perennial food forest. It’s currently fenced to protect our young plants and keep our beagle contained. We spend a lot of time here with our dogs and our thoughts. I love to meditate and read under the canopy of the trees. It’s particularly lovely this time of year.
In a painful practice in delayed gratication, I finally got my Christmas gift for myself yesterday and will now wait several years (at least) to reap its benefits. Eleven tiny fruit trees that promise potential for homegrown apples, pears, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, and cherries, so long as I can keep the bugs, birds, rodents, deer, and inclement weather events away in the meantime.

It is strange in the garden not having the team here and being a sole gardener again. Lucky to have plenty of space in isolation to work on and plenty of tasks to keep occupied in these quiet days. I have enjoyed hearing the sounds of nature more with no road traffic or planes in the sky.
On starting this new position last year one of the noticeable concerns was how unproductive the orchards were. I put this down to a vast population of winter moth caterpillar damaging the buds before fruit could set. However, walking around yesterday evening it is very concerning to see how little activity there is around all the cherry's and plums that are in full bloom. Where are all the bees? Has the wet winter further damaged populations in decline? Is anyone else noticing a lack of pollinators? #horticulture#organic#orchard#pollinators

Reinstating the irrigation canals
The project tries to unveil and reinstate the former irrigating channels for the newly curated section of the Royal Monastery of Pedralbes' Orchard. A process of re-discovery, infrastructure recycling and engaging with the community.

I’ve been busy harvesting baskets of this beautiful red apple off the gnarly old tree in the orchard. I’m not sure what the variety is, but I’m told the tree was a gift from Kay Baxter at @koangainstitute when she was living in Kaiwaka. Whatever it is, it’s an absolute beaut and I feel so lucky that we get to enjoy it 😊

Toddler shares his beans with beloved dog: a portrait. And you know what? The dog ate them 😂❤️
I’m pretty happy about these watering can selvedges. 😍 Remember how last summer we were working on getting our yard installed? We got the sprinklers and sod done, and the concrete patio. This spring it’s all about my trees and garden and flower planters—I’m so excited! Two weeks ago we planted 10 fruit trees in our orchard area, and being the #enneagram5 that I am, I planned out each tree and variety to ripen at different times and be ideal cross pollinators for each other. I’m a geek, but it makes me so happy! I’m just starting to see the leaf buds and blossom clusters come out on some of the branches and I’m literally swooning about it. It’s the highlight of my morning to walk my orchard and see and talk to each of my trees. 🧡 This Homestead collection is literally an illustration of what I’m doing in my life right now, and I couldn’t love it more.
