Charles Brown of Texas City, Texas, wrote it in 1961, and Otis Redding of Macon, Georgia, made it a holiday classic in 1967. If you wear our sweatshirt, you'll probably be singing it all through the season. (And yeah. Forgive us for rolling this out pre-🦃, we wanted you to have it for those parties the weekend after!) #merrychristmasbaby#otisredding#holidaysweatshirt#bittersoutherner#bettersouth

I still want you to stay
I still love you anyway
I don't want you to ever leave
Girl, you just satisfy me, ooh-wee
I don't #tbt , but when I do... Throwback to one of the things I'm honestly most proud of designing/accomplishing in my life?
This is one of a set of four flyers for an open format jam that I organized back in Toronto in my early 20s while I was a student. .
Coming of age in Toronto while religiously attending the amazing, open-format, all-vinyl Footprints parties (w @generaleclectics, @djjasonpalma and @basicsoulunit) made me fall in love with digging and all those vintage sounds.I realized that digging for records was something that I held sacred, and this automatically meant that "dj'ing" (who am I kidding, selecting) was my fave thing in the world and, thus, throwing a party at a REAL bar (Thymeless 🇯🇲 -- Most amazing system I've exoerienced, but what a shithole) with REAL flyers AND A LISTING IN @nowtoronto was quite literally a dream come true. .
Adam, Maria, and Jen, along with @nattyphysicist and @colin_bell__ are some of the greatest ppl I've ever met, and this is a cornball moment, but shows the power of what a love of music snd a desire to share it with others can lead to (the UWDJ club). .
Anyways, we threw this party. Barely anyone came. Fun was had.
For the flyer, I was (and still am) a huge fan of open systems and collage. The party was called Play Nice, so I wanted to show "reps" from different genres somehow collaged to appear like they were performing together in the same time and space. And also...I wanted b/w contrasted w a flat, colourblocked background bc this is me we're dealing w here.
This one features heavyweights Gene Krupa (drums - #genekrupa ) and Otis Redding ( #otisredding ). I think it may be my fave of the four? More forthcoming!
Oh, and a huge reason I'm proud of this? I made it all with grainy, b/w images I found online and PAINSTAKINGLY cropped (guys this is me... You can only imagine the fastidiousness) nearly pixel-by-pixel while still learning how to use #Photoshop CS6. #neveragain
#certifieclassicbyfonky#ccbf#yoannfreejay#yoannfreget#live#thevoice#tryalittletenderness#otisredding#performance#talent#soul#gospel#talent

- It's my belief that Otis Redding's death is one of the greatest tragedies in music history. Listen to his music, watch his performance at Monterey Pop, and see what a great musician and performer he was. He was only 26 when he lost his life; unlike scores of other musicians who died of drugs or misadventure, he was just very unlucky. He'd have had no problem creating great music and continuing to be a significant and successful artist into the 1970s, but it was not to be. Imagine your favourite artist dying young right before their best work was recorded - that's what happened to Otis. "The Immortal" is a posthumous collection of material recorded in late '67 before he died, and it's by far my favourite Otis record... but I love Otis any old way. Everything he ever recorded is at least worth hearing, and at best essential. #otisredding#theimmortal#from1967#vinyl#vinylgram#vinylporn#vinylcollector#vinylcollection#vinylhoarder#records#recordcollection#recordcollector#nowplaying#nowspinning#onmyturntable#33rpm#vinyloftheday

#tbtmusic for this week are some of my all time favorite R&B songs. These hit a special place in my heart and are at the core of my love for R&B. #otisredding#percysledge
Otis Redding “The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads” Volt-VOLT411 Mono (1965). The singular Otis Ray Redding Jr, let’s begin at the beginning with my man here. Already a well-known local singer in Macon as a teenager in the late 1950’s, he agreed to drive his friend to a recording session at the LEGENDARY Stax Records in 1962. With a few minutes of tape left Otis was asked if he wanted to try a couple himself- and that’s all she wrote. This session produced the insanely incredible ‘These Arms of Mine’, I mean - goddamn. Right out the box. You might be able to sense a serious Otis-based bias on my part, unapologetically for certain. This particular circular slice of soul is my favorite non-compilation of the man’s work. Starting off with my all-time, number one soul favorite ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is’ that always makes me think of Mrs. DaddyRich - the power in his voice is not from this earthly vale of tears. It’s able to cut like a weapon into you and it’s going to make you feel something - even (and especially) if you don’.t want it to. But, if you’re already receptive, it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. We, of course, lost him much too soon in December of 1967 but we do have the music and he is forever preserved, as if in amber, for people to partake and enjoy. I mean, there’s nothing here that isn’t transcendent - and I hope someday someone may tell you that an Otis love song makes them think of you. #stax#otisredding#vinyl#nowplaying#vinyligclub#recordcollection#records#vinylcollection#vinylporn#vinylcollector#nowontheturntable#vinylcollector#records#albums #nowspinning#instavinyl#vinylrecords#vinylcollective#myrecordcollection#33rpm#igvinylcommunity
