While most vanlifers are heading south for the winter, we’re chasing snow this season! ❄️ ⛄️ .
Here are some tips to make sure your campervan is winter ready:
✅ Snow Tires (And chains to be safe)
✅ Proper insulation (we like Thinsulate or rock wool)
✅ Heater by @webasto. Runs off the gas tank!
✅ Rubber mats - for your shoes and equipment
✅ And don’t forget your ski pass! .
What would you bring along on a winter campervan adventure?

Today is the much anticipated day when I get to pick up Nicole from #LAXairport after her 6 week van tour in Australia. We have plans to drive #LadytheScamp up the coast of #California to attend the #GameofThrows juggling festival in #SanJose , then make our way to #Phoenix for a family photo shoot, and also visit my favorite spots in #Sedona and #thegrandcanyon on our way up to one of our favorite cities #Vegas . There will definitely be some twists and turns added in between too. Here we go! 🚐🤠✌️Photos by the talented @j.zevalkink

I feel like January has become the holiday recover month and all we want to do is stay in bed next to a crackling fire. 🔥💤😌

It seems like every time I go home I have to take a trip down to Ithaca. I’ve gotten to see a lot of beautiful places in the world but the waterfalls and overall scenery in Ithaca are in a world all their own. .
This trip to Ithaca was a little more interesting to me though. As I study environmental science for my degree, I’ve started to look at the world a little differently and at one of my favorite falls in Ithaca, I noticed two troubling signs. .
The first sign I saw was regarding the lake sturgeon that is a native species in the Great Lakes. This ancient fish has been listed as threatened due to the fact that the species has declined nearly 99% over the past century. The lake sturgeon can live for more than 100 years and grow to be over 8 feet long and the species teeters on the brink of extinction. .
The second sign alerts visitors to lead contamination in the area around Ithaca Falls. This contamination is due to the fact that the falls is downstream of what was once the Ithaca Gun Factory. While the department for environmental conservation declared the area “cleanup complete” in 2017, high levels of lead were again found in 2018 due to the lead contaminated soil. .
I’m aware that it’s hard for people to care about the environment when it’s not in our backyard, when it’s not directly effecting us. But what about when it IS in our backyard? What if the Great Lakes and Mississippi River drainage loses an iconic species of fish? What if a landscape that is frequently fished and visited becomes closed off due to high levels of lead? Things that we’ve had the luxury of enjoying may not be around for the next generation to enjoy and the cycle will only continue.

After a nice hot token shower I stumbled out to the pungent aroma of fresh brewed coffee, tangled with the sweet salty air and wildflower blooms. The waves crash into an almost inaudible ‘hush’ in the distance, and as I close my eyes and listen for a moment, I know that this is not just a ‘glorified camping trip’ like what my family scolds us for; .
this is the life we have worked so hard to create for ourselves, the life where we decide what we want instead of being at mercy of someone else and what they think is best. The life where we spend our days giggling like kids after rolling around in the dirt with the dogs, snacking down on hummus & home cooked meals every day, and waking up with matted veils of hair, eyes wide and ready for the next adventure. .
I heard a saying recently that really stuck with me- you can be the head of the chicken, or the tail of a bull. Make decisions for yourself, create your own path to what makes you happy, even if you feel a little foolish along the way; Don’t mindlessly follow if there’s an opportunity to create something better. Are you the type of person who wants to shape their own future, or let it be shaped for you?
Quite a few people have messaged me in the past week asking how to book the cabins and huts I post.
I’ve yet to post a photo of an Airbnb (can’t afford the photogenic ones 🙈). The huts in my feed aren’t usually bookable or easy to get to. Rather they are shelters built for hikers, climbers, and mountaineers to take refuge in.
If you choose to visit them, be sure to leave them as you would like to find them. Sweep up after yourself, pack out your waste, and be respectful of others who are there!

My solar set up has been critical for life on the road so far. I have a 160 watt flexible panel on my roof (the flexible panel is so stealthy, look just behind the fan vent!) that charges a 200 AH battery which powers my heater, fridge, lights, water pump and inverter which is able to charge all of my camera batteries & electronics.
If you're looking to get a solar set up of your own I'd highly recommend @Renogy!

How to deal with self-doubt:
Focus your soul’s gaze inward, stare in awe of the goodness that exists deep in your guts. It’s ok to gawk – you’re that gorgeous.
Then lay your eyes on your waist, your thighs, your ass, and bless the life you’ve lived in that fleshy spirit-filled suit – which is all good, which is all yours. Gawk again.
Acknowledge the topography of grief and glee and trauma and feats that carve their way through your being. Admire your landscape.
Sort through the events of the past, recognize those you can box up and store away for a while, and make note of the ones worth keeping - those that empower and uplift and spark joy. Marie Kondo that shit.
Stand with your feet firmly planted, or sit, or lie down, and root yourself in the spot you’ve found you. Right here. Right now. Greet the moment with acceptance and boatloads of hope.
Know this – though you might not be standing on a mountain top – the grace you grant yourself in the place where you’re at is wildly justified by the simple fact that you’re there. Because, even in the long valleys or dark canyons – you’re just as worthy.
In a world that constantly tells us we aren’t up to snuff - too much, not enough, carefree, wealthy and crowned with clear skin - to care for yourself well, makes you a rebel. Act riotous in adoration of yourself.
Paint your face with self-approval, measure your inherent value by the number of stars in the sky, fish in the sea, bits of dust suspended in murky rivers.
Make peace with the past by busting down the damns that deny you the courage you deserve, and let your immense worth wash over you.
Burn a bridge or two, and build a few up with planks of forgotten dreams bound together by belief in yourself and the loveliness that is owed to you in exchange for your existence alone.
Dress yourself each day with layers of love – and remember, though it doesn’t always look nice and neat – it always looks badass, just like you.

Magical forests in the heart of Vancouver🌲
One of the reasons why I love Vancouver so much - you don’t have to go far to find places like this💛

Polar stratospheric clouds😍🌈 So surreal and even apocalyptic to see all those pastel colors during a Beautiful sunset. Did you know those clouds appear only couple of times a year at certain places? And that they actually destroys ozone?"
