I woke up to today's sun
Through the heavy curtains of my bedroom.
How is it, that the sun is still strong,
At a time like this?
How can birds sing, unabashed,
Perch unafraid on concrete towers,
As if they were here first?
How are colours still bright,
Peonies, blooming in desolate parks,
Glimpses of squirrels playing in the branches
Swirling leaves in a careless wind
Almost as if humanity is an afterthought
Caught in its own lurch
And is barely a speck
On the timeline of the world?

If you've ever wanted to swim alongside one or more humpback whales, the Polynesian Kingdom of Tonga is one of the best places in the world to embark on this truly one-of-a-kind, bucketlist experience. But, first things first, where exactly is Tonga?
By plane, Fuaʻamotu International Airport (TBU), located on the main island of Tongatapu, is roughly 5 hours east of Sydney. Keep in mind, this is just one of 170 different islands. Other than Tongatapu, be sure to remember the northern island group of Vavaʿu, as this is the most prominent place to see humpback whales.
So, what makes Tonga such a special destination for these special creatures? 🐋 Well, it's just one of two sites in the annual Antarctic-Tonga migration, and the only place where you can swim with mothers and newborn calves of this "Tungan Tribe".
In the warm, safe waters of Tunga, this unique tribe of humpback whales breed and give birth between mid June through early October. They then head south for Antarctica's summer months to feed on one of the world's largest populations of Krill.
And they don't just feed, they feast! The average adult bulks up on roughly two tons of krill each day before embarking on the 3,728 mile return journey around May.
This excess consumption provides a critical fat and energy layer to fuel the long swim back to Tonga. Not to mention, it’s also enough nutrition to hold them over while pregnant whales feed their young, breed or give birth, and finally, head back south to repeat the cycle.
So, are you convinced yet?! If so, check out the two companies listed below (which were also tagged in the original picture). Both offer multi day, guide-accompanied boat tours, so you're almost guaranteed to have a lifetime photo and experience like the one you see here.

Where does your nose point ✨ raise your head and be true to yourselves peeps. Love all and fight for whats right and be someone you are proud of at the end of the day 🌅
Visiting this place was amazing! It was a peaceful and serene experience, until two very disrespectful girls clearly taking social media photos were wearing clunky heels (in a quiet space), drinking beer and spinning hoola hoops right in front of the central figure, blocking other visitors. Just a friendly reminder that while it’s fun to take social media photos, some places aren’t meant for a full photo shoot, and definitely not while disobeying the rules and drinking openly in public. We totally snagged a few pictures, but they were quick and tasteful and not bothering anyone. We all need to learn a little more respect in general.

NASA's Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover, or VIPER, is a mobile robot that'll roam around the Moon's south pole looking for water ice. The VIPER mission will give us surface-level detail of where the water is and how much is available for us to use.
Pictured here is the VIPER mobility test-bed, an engineering model created to evaluate the rover's mobility system. The test-bed includes mobility units, computing as well as motor controllers. Testing involves evaluating performance of the rover as it drives over various slopes, textures and soils that simulate the lunar environment.
VIPER will bring up a significant step closer towards NASA's ultimate goal of a sustainable, long term presence on the Moon - making it possible to eventually explore Mars and beyond.
One of the most epic adventures of 2019 was my trip to Patagonia. It was filled with good friends, incredible views, and so many unforgettable days in the backcountry without an internet connection 😊 Here’s to hoping there’s more trips like this in 2021 🤙🏻

@josemostajo - Now that we’re getting back into summer, I started looking at photos I took last June. Driving up the west coast, enjoying the weather, and exploring new places made for an awesome trip. This is one of my favorite photos from back then. #earthoutdoors
