For three years, our family has helped to renovate a local park that fell into disrepair. After lots of hard work, the new park was opened late last fall. However, we ran out of money before we were able to add some of the fun finishing touches that we were hoping for. .
One of those “extras” was an outdoor chalkboard for the playground. My kids love to draw! I was shocked at how expensive they turned out to be, so we decided to DIY our own and donate it to the park.
All it took was some 4x4s, 2x4s, cement board and some paint. With my husband and father in law on the job, we had a DIY chalkboard in no time!
The new board was installs yesterday and the kids are already hard at play. So glad we saved HUNDREDS by doing it ourselves!
It's a personal goal to instill a sense of wonder and respect to the environment in my teaching.
Today I was asked to observe a spider that a student found while exploring the "tall grass". When I came over we had a conversation about how pretty the spider was, and I was asked if I could pick it up and bring it over to the rest of the group. This sparked a conversation about respect, we spoke about how the spider was in her home, and that taking her away would upset her. We came to the decision that we would let her finish her "lunch" and check back tomorrow when we explore again.
Even though my students are 3-4 years old, they can see the value and happiness the outdoor environment can bring them.
Rocks become building materials, they use them as tools, and experiment with weight/balance as they work together.
They can enjoy following deer tracks in the mud to see where a deer had played last night.
What we must never forget is the value in having freedom in an outdoor environment, with natural materials, and it's positive impact on the mind.
This view right here 😍. At the end of hands down the best fishing day I’ve ever had Jeff (the float plane pilot In the top right corner) made a victory lap over this very Alaskan sky line before coming in to pick us up.
Our crew in action! Day 4 @ our Richmond Project completed two months ago. Up in the clouds ☁️ Before I left for this little hike during my last trip in Austria it was absolutely pouring rain and I was so bummed. I was only at this spot for 1 day and I wanted to make the most of it so I decided to go out regardless. When I arrived at the parking place at the beginning of the trail it was deserted. I walked through the rain with not another person in sight... I was starting to think if this was such a good idea but I kept going. Half an hour later I arrived at the brigde and as soon as I reached it, it stopped raining!! It made my whole day and I was so glad I went out in the rain and having this place for myself 🙏🏼 Tell me: do you stay inside when it rains or do you brace the weather? 🍃 @gopro#GoproHero7#gopro

Aah, that simple life 🙏🏼🚐
Travelling around with van it’s still my no1, although I put it a bit aside this summer (new things ahead 😏🤫). I love the concept of living the simple life, save water, be self sufficient with electric energy and just simplify everything. I feel like home everywhere and every little piece of earth can be my backyard. All this makes me more connected with the place, nature and people around and gives me the feeling of freedom, the feeling that I constantly seek 🌌 Have you ever tasted #vanlife ? 🙏🏼
