10 Years Decorating Today!! Where has the time gone?! 10 years ago I decided to take a leap from working in a pub to go back into education and get an apprentiship in Painting & Decorating. Robert Cains took me under his wing and taught me not only how to paint but also to believe in myself a lot more! We worked in some wonderful houses around Nottighamshire and some amazing places in London - I loved it! I got to the Nationals in a Skill Build Competition in 2011 which was a great achievement for me at the time!
I took over Robs business in 2014 when he passed away and it's something I never thought I'd be able to do but I did it! After many ups and downs I'm still so pleased this is the career I chose! Volunteering on DIY SOS and meeting the team was another thing I never thought I'd be able to do! Changing the business name and bringing the business to Derby were also tricky! I feel I still have plenty to learn and will continue to do so! Thank you to the #decoratorsofinstagram who can be a great support when you need them! Thanks go everyone who uses me for their decorating and is happy to wait while I'm off having these babies 😂 Thanks to everyone who gives me confidence in myself when half the time I still wonder what the hell I'm doing and should go and get a "normal job" 😆

Working on a couple of large boards for the first time in months. I want to keep working on paper as well, but I think it’s important for me to keep changing things up.
Next up, two more new boards and a lot of paint flinging!

Friday flowers! Just putting the finishing touches on this one this morning. Another busy day ahead but it's Friday!!! Yay!! Have an amazing day friends! 💕
This week I shifted focus from one Ted Hughes poem to another. Each time I do that, the palette changes. I find this fascinating. I’m not making conscious decisions - things just shift in a new direction.
Do you find this with colour? Do you move into new palettes almost without thinking? Or is colour a more conscious decision for you?
