A fellow travel family @herewegoagain.blog recently posted about nature being their therapy. We believe in this 100%. Growing up, when I didn’t feel good my mom would encourage me to go outside for some vitamin D. She was always right, going outside and getting some sunshine always helped. It’s our favorite way to spend time together as a family, being outside. .
If you’ve missed it lately, we are dealing with some serious medical issues right now that forced us to move back to California. We left Arizona a few days ago 💔 It was bittersweet but we are excited to be close to family once again. .
So far it’s been a blessing in disguise. We bought a house in my(Michelle’s) home town. And Fernando got an amazing job opportunity. Once we figure out what’s going on with me medically, and we can get it taken care of, life will be looking really sweet ❤️
So when you are feeling overwhelmed or just down, do you try going for a walk outside? I swear by it 🙌🏻
#ad To make long car journeys with kids enjoyable demands a fair bit of planning. The monotony of being in the same place for extended periods of time eventually gets the better of even the best behaved children. 🚘🚘🚘
We have quite a bit of experience packing the car up for various road trips around the UK and Europe, so I am always on the lookout for ideas and games to make the time in the car enjoyable – for all of us! .
So I got really excited when I saw 50 Things to do on a Journey by Usborne Books! In this little pack of cards it promised me there were 50 things to keep my kids entertained on a journey! 50!
50 Things to soon a Journey was a huge success as we took it on our 5 week road trip around Croatia. .
Both the kids loved playing with the cards and in very different ways. Our little girl of 4 loved the games and playing them as a family and my little 1 year old boy loved the way they looked and would spend his time happily sorting through them and trying to put them back in the packet. 👦 👧🏼 .
I can definitely say this pack is a great resource to keep kids entertained on long car journeys. .
See our stories for more pictures of the cards and all the places we played them!

Don’t let the Instagram pictures fool you - Charles Bridge can get really crowded. The only way you’ll get a photo without the crowd is to go very early in the morning (which we failed to do) but I kind of like the ambience given off by crowds in photos. It makes it feel like you’ve been transported into that moment the photo was taken📸
E voi cosa fate in queste giornate autunnali? . . .
When you focus on the good, the good gets better 😁
Before heading to the Tillamook Factory, we stopped by the @goodcoffeepdx since Jesse wanted to buy their coffee beans. Unfortunately they were going to restock later in the day, so we didn’t get any but it’s okay. Their coffee was good and the view was awesome. We came at 7am so the plaza was empty, and we were able to quickly snap this photo.
When taking photos, I like to do a jump forward movement and then Auggie started laughing so I started laughing too 😆 He’s my little hype man haha
I order their matcha latte with lavender and oat milk. 💯 recommend. My all time favorite drink to order though is a chai tea latte with oat milk, and a pump of lavender.
We always try to encourage others who’re interested in full time travel or any of the elements of it that we’ve experienced and shared here. It’s the same with anything else we’ve done in life. Our travels have been a lot of fun so they’re easy to talk about positively and openly. Often I don’t really think about how much we have to share on the subject until someone else asks and I find we actually know more than we give ourselves credit for. In the last few days several people have reached out for advice on different parts of our journey and have shared their own. It’s easy to remember how we felt in the place they’re in now. In some instances we’re at exactly the same point and I recognize a lot of the feelings they’re sharing. Common ones are nerves, excitement and frustration at facing too many decisions or options. They’re mostly somewhere under the umbrella of “money/time management” too and trying to work out what’s best for everyone and the future. Of course, think things through but grinding to a halt at those moments is really being paralyzed by fear of the unknown..
Whatever end of full time travel you’re looking at, it feels like you need a solid plan. The reality is the plan is all just small steps. You work out the first ones to get closer to the next ones and so on. If you wait to have it all worked out you’ll never do anything with the opportunities you have now..
Go out and enjoy today. Live the life you want to choose by taking the steps today that get you closer to it. Likelihood is it’ll all work out better than you could plan it anyway. .

Sensoji temple was a cool place to hang out and learn more about Buddhism. It gets crowded quick so going early is a must!
I’m a type 2 fun lover. My favorite thing is climbing a mountain. Even if it involves another human being hitching a ride on my back. I haven’t climbed a mountain in over a week which is just completely unacceptable behavior.

This Croc is holding a stick on his snout like a dog with a biscuit. Look close! 😳 Since we’ve been in Topical North Queensland we’ve been dying to see a Crocodile out in the wild....I mean, from a distance. 😂 Well, today we did!! I was having trouble sneaking up on him, so I sent the drone over for a little chat to see how his day was going. I was sure glad he didn’t snatch it out of mid air when I drifted a bit too close. 😬 What a Day!!!! Droning with Crocs!! What’s next??? 🙌🏼🙌🏼🤘🏼We’re done chasing Crocs now Mom.🤣

I’ve been home from our last trip for a little over a week now, and I’m amazed, once again, at how much travel changes me. When I’m home, I get lost in the day-to-day. I homeschool and shuttle and clean (who’re we kidding... I don’t clean) and work and my eyes are cast down, toward my tasks. When I travel, though, when I am removed from my own hustle, I look up. I catch another glimpse of the fact that I am not in control. For all the plates I keep spinning at home, I could never create these mountains. I don’t have enough imagination to paint the canyon wall that particular shade of orange. I am not strong enough to make that river rush the way it does. My perspective is shifted, once again, and I become aware of how small I am. I need this shift. Without it, the holy and weighty work of motherhood would swallow me up. When my eyes are lifted, though, I remember what we’re working for here - healthy families who also understand the importance of adventure, of perspective. That it’s not just fun, it’s necessary. So eyes up, Sister.
our trip hasn’t been perfect and it hasn’t always been relaxing (hello, jetlag and stomach bugs and toddler temper tantrums and being 5.5 months pregnant) but it’s been such a rewarding and fulfilling vacation, because we get to show Lucy the world and experience new places through her childlike curiosity and wonder. ✨💛 E snapped these when we were wandering around this morning and it feels very reflective of our entire trip — basically, we’re both just trying to chase Lucy around at all times 😅 #burdsleavethenest

Magic in the #maldives . Not a day went by that rays, turtles, blacktip reef 🦈 and a 🌈 of 🐠 didn’t glide passed us. A humbling reminder for me and lesson for the kids that this is their home and we are merely visitors.
The weather has been so horrible here in the UK for the last few days that it's hard to motivate yourself to get outside. The other day it rained so much in the morning that I was tempted to just stay inside all day. However, I know that my little adventurer loves to get out whatever the weather, so we risked it and went to one of our favourite parks. On the way we drove through torrential rain and I definitely had second thoughts! But as soon as we arrived, the sun came out and we had this wonderful spot pretty much to ourselves. So this is a reminder to my future self: always go on the adventure! 🙌

Longing for blue skies and sunshine on this very wet Wednesday!⠀
This is the lovely fishing village of Camara de Lobos in Madeira. Winston Churchill enjoyed spending time in this village during his visit to Madeira after WWII, painting the boats and bay. ⠀
Where would you rather be this Wednesday?
I can’t actually believe I’m writing this again, but my little Meggy has spent the last few days really unwell, suffering with tonsillitis...again. After everything we went through to get the hospital to agree to remove her tonsils, I genuinely thought the end was in sight. Turns out I was wrong. 😭
Unbeknown to us, Megan was removed from the waiting list for her tonsillectomy due to our GP’s refusal to sign the paperwork needed to release the funding for the operation. Unbeknown to us, regardless of whether a consultant agrees a child’s tonsils need removing, or however many times over they meet the criteria, the GP still holds the trump card when push comes to shove. But, unbeknown to them, I’m not the kind of Mama to take this lying down. 👊
This afternoon I consulted the people in charge of funding for tonsillectomy’s and it turns out that regardless of whether our GP is on board, we can launch an Independent Funding Request on the basis that not only does Megan meet the criteria, but she has been hospitalised on at least 5 separate occasions severely unwell as a result of her tonsils. When you’ve sat beside your child being blue lighted to hospital via ambulance, or held their hand in resuscitation when they’ve gone blue in the face because their airways are restricted, you don’t forget those moments, even if the medical notes are brushed over. 🤐
So we now have a 5 day wait to discover if this will be accepted and I’m asking you to please cross your fingers and toes this will be the case. It actually breaks my heart how many times this little girl has been failed over the years, far too many to count if I’m honest, but I will continue to fight tooth and nail for her and I won’t ever stop. 💔
