Sat in a plantshop-coffee shop hybrid, I opened my copy of Patti Smith’s Year of the Monkey and started to read. The comforting cup of English breakfast combined with the dreamy background music allowed me to sink into my surroundings. On page 11 I was struck with these words: “In the Dream Motel, I was certain I did not dream, yet the more I thought about it, I realised I did dream. More precisely, I skated along the fringe of dream. Dusk masqueraded as night, unmasking as dawn and illumine a path I willingly followed, from the desert to the sea”. Reading this, I started to let the words sink in till suddenly I felt the sharp jabbing of a cactus needle piercing my little elbow, piercing the dream bubble Patti’s words were creating on the crisp new pages. Back to reality it is then. 🧡📖🌿🌞⚡️

Both of my rhaphidophora tetraspermas are such fast growers. And, they both have new leaves that popped out this week!
I was planning on taking a cutting from the larger plant, but these guys don't seem to branch at all so I wimped out. I don't want to ruin the opportunity for a perfect, long, stand of RT! But...if anyone had stories of taking cutting without running their plant, I could be convinced 😅

https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/IvyMayStudio is now open!!
Aerial view of my terrarium that I made back in the spring. So update on how the plants are doing:
The red and the green fittonias are doing well and have even had trimmings. However the moon valley pilea did not survive "hints the empty upper right corner" so what am I going to do with the empty space? Im thinking if I come across another variety of fittonia such as a pink one, then I will add it to the terrarium.
Simply adoring how much vitality and colour our houseplants bring into every room of the house just now. From air purifying plants like the calethea to succulents and cacti, each of these beauties- no matter what size - just make their room come alive in a way that decor can’t. Uber low maintenance, even for the less green fingered amongst us, I love me an indoor plant .... or ten!
🌱 They live off carbon dioxide and can increase air quality and oxygen levels. My Calethea (pic one) is one of my faves. I love how it captures the light and folds its leaves in the evening. Calatheas are a natural air purifiers and they cleverly absorb and break down toxic substances. We have just had to move it as the leaves were browning, turns out this one loves the moist air in our main bathroom and not being in direct sunlight.
The succulents and cacti love living bedrooms and the kitchen. Do you sleep with a plant near you bed? Try it. Succulent are great for bedside tables.

Makes 16 balls
2-3 pea sized portions Authentic Shilajit
1 Tbsp hot water
8-10 dates, pitted
1.5 cups raw cashews
2 Tbsp hemp seeds
1/4 tsp sea salt
3 Tbsp unsweetened cocao powder
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp ghee or coconut oil
3 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
3 Tbsp cocoa powder
1. Put shilajit in a small dish. Add 1 Tbsp hot water and stir until dissolved. Set aside.
2. In the bowl of a food processor, put pitted dates and pulse until crumbly.
3. Add in cashews, hemp seeds, cocoa powder and salt. Pulse until starting to incorporate. It should be a bit crumbly still.
4. Next add in vanilla extract, shilajit mixture and ghee or coconut oil. Process until all ingredients combine and a ball forms.
5. Take a spoonful at a time and roll into a ball. Place on a parchment lined dish.
6. Put in the fridge for 30 minutes.
7. To roll in toppings, remove from fridge. Place sesame seeds and cocoa powder in two shallow dishes. Carefully roll half the balls in the sesame seeds and half in the cocoa powder (or use whichever you prefer.)
8. Place back on dish and put in the fridge for 2 hours. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Pot o cuteness. A few spider plants that are hanging on, a few small propagations, and my fittonia. It wasn't loving being a hanging plant so now I'm working on filling on the gaps it got on the backside from sitting too close to the wall.

Marble Peperomia// Such an easy plant. I often just forget about it because I’ve never had an issue with it! It’s a great starter plant! 🌟

I tried to will Fall to come by wearing a sweatshirt to IKEA. It didn’t work just ended up sweaty so I took it off (a girl’s natural handmade deodorant only goes so far, ya know?). Anyone have any voodoo ideas to get Fall to come? Please comment below with what you’re doing to make it happen!🤪. So unrelated here’s a few of my planties in my farmhouse kitchen sink because apparently that’s a thing. I don’t typically water them here (I do them in their pots - I know I shouldn’t - or in the laundry room sink). But now I know why people take pics of their plants in their farmhouse sinks cause it’s stinking cute!
Side note: I spent 4 days debating whether to post this. Why? Because of my smile. Yes, my cute little bunny smile. I was bullied a lot growing up and my teeth were number 1. Hamster Girl, Rabbit, Bucky, Mouse kid, etc. I stopped smiling, I started hiding my smile. How tragic? A child, too scared to smile. I would cry myself to sleep because of my teeth and was too scared that I’d get bullied even more if I got braces (so now My teeth are all wacky). I actually put my own well-being second to the fear of what others thought of me. Today I said to myself, you’re twenty fucking six Sarah, GET REAL.
So here it is, a photo I ALMOST let get ruined because of a problem that never existed. I’m cute, my outfit is on point, I’ve got massive spider plants in each hand, there is a dog in front of me and I’m HAPPY AS HELL.
But doesn’t this go to show- never judge a book by its cover.
And friendly reminder - DO NOT comment negatively on the features a person CANNOT change. That’s not cool.
G👏🏾U👏🏾R👏🏾L ... yesterday evening this kween had the opportunity to facilitate her very first Propagation 101 werkshop as a part of the Green Gurls Series I am developing with @heyhorti ... and dahling it was such a fun, authentic, and joyous experience!!! 🌵🌿🌱
One of the ways that I love to spread that botanical love is through plant propagation 🤗 I have propagated my green gurls so that I could share some of my plant fam with my planty frands. I have propagated my green gurls just so that I could have more plants in my apartment without having to go shopping (even though y’all know this kween looovvvvesss plant shopping! 🌿🛍) I’ve also used plant propagation to grow cuttings from plants that were not doing too well, and I wanted make sure that I preserved at least a cutting of that particular plant ✂️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But hunty, I know that propagating plants is 1) not always easy and 2) can sometimes be anxiety provoking ... because the last thang any plant parent wants to see is a plant cutting that didn’t make it! 😭
And so last night we talked through and validated those anxieties, shared stories of plant fails and plant successes, as I demonstrated some successful techniques I have used to propagate some of my greens gurls ... 🤗🌿🌱🌵
My biggest advice for my fellow plant kweens that joined us for the werkshop was that 1) it is so crucial to do your research on the green gurl you want to propagate 2) patience is key when waiting for the green gurl to root and 3) have fun with it, learn from your mistakes and celebrate your successes 💚💚💚
Thanks to everyone who came out last night!!!! Our conversations, our willingness to be vulnerable and share our failures + our anxieties, and also share our successes was so refreshing! It was yet again another reminder that plant people are the best people 💚🌿🌱🌵
