We're all doing our best. For me, that means working overtime to fill the hours with fun and adventure so that when my kid looks back on the year 2020, all he remembers are happy memories with mom. It's So. Fucking. Hard. some days.
What I wouldn’t give to be up amongst the mountain tops today! Thinking back to my first backpacking trip up in the North Cascades this past Fall and looking forward to adventures ahead later this year 🏔🌲🥾
As parks around the country begin to close one after another, I cannot help but sift through my catalog of memories. Here’s a couple shots of what it’s like hiking the PNW. If you’re like me and craving some nature, now is the perfect time to pick up a poster of one of your favorite shots! Oh yeah, I have posters now as well as canvas prints! Go check them out at www.andrewshiarla.com . .

Times like these make me miss the walks out in the snow with the stars beaming above. This particular night was New Years Eve walking out to Trillium Lake as I found myself stopping every few minutes to take in the scenery, it was so peaceful. After this 2 mile stroll in the woods, I ended up standing at the rim of the frozen lake and got to enjoy watching the fireworks booming and echoing throughout the forest from Timberline Lodge 😍. What a night! The light on the trees was from the moon rising behind me
I’ve had people tell me I should put down my camera and make “real” memories. When I look at this photo, I can almost smell the ferns and the fog and the lake. I can remember the feeling of sitting on that rock and watching the clouds shift over the water and through the trees 🌲 If this isn’t a real memory, I don’t know what is ☁️

What are you doing to better yourself during this time? Do you find yourself with a little extra free time on your hands or are you still working all day? I find myself a little bogged down at the moment, working full time and school full time but I’m still trying to find time to work out and catch up on some tutorials to help advance my editing skills. Really looking forward to getting back out into nature soon! .
So, with all this extra time at home I saw the #shootersFFA editing contest put on by @world.shooters and thought I’d try my hand at interpreting someone else’s work. This first entry is a beautiful image taken by @parker_burkett of @pnw.shooters on the Oregon Coast.
While I’ve had a chance to visit there, I haven’t seen it in quite this type of light. It was great to play with the mist off in the distance and to really work on the way the light interacts with the layers. Lots of depth to work with!
Take a look at their profile to see more about the contest!
Fear is your best friend or your worst enemy. It is like fire. If you can control it, it can cook for you, it can heat your home. If you can’t control it, it has the power to burn without limitation.
I like my ego, because I like being human. It keeps me safe, but sometimes doesn’t know when I’m already taken care of. I don’t need to be in so much fear while experiencing being.
I am well. And I hope you and yours are staying healthy and light too.
My beautiful friend, @palomasphotography took this photo. I will never take your friendship and hospitality for granted, love!
Well, not on the sail boat or the ferry.
Or even the water for that matter.
But growing up at the foot of the Olympics, you / I never really saw their glory unless out on the water to see it.
This is such an amazing shot.
