An Act of Kindness a Day: Day 11
Thank you all so much for joining me in this series that will continue daily throughout the the month of November. Continued from yesterday, here is Part Four of Kai’s story:
“3 p.m. (I think)
My memory of that second ER is much more faint. I think that, by this time, the adrenaline had worn off and I was no longer being asked to repeat the same pieces of information over and over again. I remember the pace slowing down and the nurses seeming calmer. I don't think it's a stretch to say that I felt myself becoming bored with the whole thing. My mind started to wander from one idea - "when am I going to get my furniture now?" - to another - "I don't think I'm going to have time to get my homework finished." That second thought is rather upsetting in retrospect: the idea that school is such a pressure-cooker that stepping away from it for a day (even for a medical emergency) begins to induce anxiety. But I won't climb up on that soapbox right now. As the IV medication started to take effect and the number of visitors began to dwindle, I stopped keeping track of what was going on when. I tried to settle in on the idea that I was going to be in the hospital for a while.
A nurse came in and turned the lights on. I didn't really mind though - I was only half-asleep as I listened to the conversations taking place in the hallway. It was time to head down to the radiology department and begin the first of many imaging tests that would try and determine what had happened to this 31 year old male with no history of medical problems. I remember the warm sensation that flooded up and down my arm as the MRI technician pushed contrast agent into my IV, followed shortly after by the BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG of the MRI machine itself.”
Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for Part Five
In the end, London was lovely and bittersweet. But even as hard as it was saying goodbye to Dylan on the platform at Paddington Station on Sunday, I was grateful. A quick 80 years separate him and I from a completely different kind of parting: one with a military uniform and very slim chances. Thousands of children were evacuated through Paddington during the Blitz and it is not lost on me that while I will never love crying on a station platform, I am so lucky to do so for such simple reasons. Today I am grateful for the people who heeded a call to serve in the name of something so much bigger than themselves; who made staggering sacrifices so that I would grow up knowing only stability and peace. Thank you. Lest We Forget. • 🌹

[invite] fancy cocktails + Yasmin =
Very happy Yasmin. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Rivoli Bar is an incredibly opulent bar in The Ritz Hotel. They have just launched their new bar menu, cocktails are all £22 and champagne cocktails are £24. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are in Green Park and are feeling fancy then you must pop in, even just to see the bar which is a spectacle all in itself. Gemma and I drank the Cesar Ritz and the Ritz 110 - both were equally delightful and frankly this is the perfect decadent date night spot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
