The truth is that when you wait till the last minute, you're increasing your stress level, right? 🥴 .
You're bringing down your joy,
You're eliminating peace of mind. .
At what cost? ⬅️
Procrastination is so universally accepted, it's like #fear and #stress smushed together into a bad sandwich. .
For example - saying, "I'm so stressed out" has become such our norm that it's okay. It's not okay. 🚫
I believe any behavior that you don't want any longer, the catalyst to changing that behavior is recognizing the price. 🎯
So, ask yourself the question, what's the price that I pay?
I'll answer for myself - it costs organizational time, peace of mind.
📣 Change your thinking, approach it differently, alter the synapses that continually feed the same old patterns that don't bring you happiness, success and fulfillment in life. Mindset is a just that. A set of beliefs that either benefit or hinder you.
PROCRASTINATION! the action of delaying or postponing something.
❓👉 DO you PROCRASTINATE when the pressure is on, the fear of doing something is strong enough to make you clean that house 20 times! Hey we have all been there or are currently cleaning the house again. For me it is a huge sign I don’t have the determination to push the boundary, the comfort zone. Today I am challenged by this but am stepping it up. I was faced with a deadline this morning that I thought I had some more time on and nailed it. The stress of deadlines shouldn’t be the reason you are able to get through procrastination. It is a habitual pattern, mindset with deep grooves that feel comfortable. ❓👉What do you want to change? Are you happy with the current state of your life? Do you admit to knowing there could be a better way?

This isn’t work-life balance, it is the complete opposite. The goal of work-life balance is to Remove stress so that you can prioritise those things that do actually make you happy. Earlier this month I signed up for @melrobbins#bestdecadeever to help keep me on track for where I want to be. This week, she listed those ⬆️ three things as reasons why people don't follow through with the things they really want, and this is what I learned:
Procrastinating is just an excuse and a form of stress relief, so when your brain is stressed you try to avoid things and that becomes a habit, but it CAN be changed. 🎉 The idea of perfection will kill your forward movement because you think everything needs to be perfect or someone will criticize you, but you know there will always be someone out there doing that anyway. 🤷♀️ "Whatever you're waiting for, it's not coming." 💥 You have to go and get it!

Is #procrastination something you’ve always struggled with? And listen, we all procrastinate. Even me!
So, how can you set yourself up to do less of it in #2020 ? Get honest with yourself and think about what is REALLY stopping you from moving the needle forward for your dream. Is it self-doubt or a lack of clarity?
My friends, I know you’ve been hearing me talk about this a lot, but it’s a brand new year. Don’t bring your old baggage into this new year with you. Don’t just go through the motions. Ask yourself which habits are going to SERVE you this year for you to become your BEST self, and then start making small steps towards them. 💥
Procrastination isn't about laziness.⠀
I have been taking refuge at the procrastination station for months. While most of us think of procrastination as "laziness" or lacking "willpower." It goes a bit deeper.⠀
According to research from Dr. Piers Steel, a professor of motivational psychology at the University of Calgary, "Procrastination isn’t a unique character flaw or a mysterious curse on your ability to manage time, but a way of coping with challenging emotions and negative moods induced by certain tasks — boredom, anxiety, insecurity, frustration, resentment, self-doubt and beyond."⠀
This means that procrastination is not a time management problem but rather an emotional regulation problem.⠀
Mind-blown? Yup, me too. Except that I've been seeing it play out all too well these last couple of months. You see, I have been working on some exciting things that I have yet to fully complete or share with you all. Each day I would organize, put it on my to-do list and fail to follow through.⠀
The core of my procrastination? Emotional exhaustion (birthing a creative project is draining) and FEAR that once it was completed I would have to send the vulnerable baby out into the world...a prime target for criticism.⠀
Another to-do list or action plan wasn't going to sort through that. Understanding how this coping mechanism was aiming to keep me safe (yet small) provides a lot more insight and possible ways to cope and work through the problem at the core rather than surface level.⠀
With that said...I've got a few things to share in the coming week...and the FEAR is real but I've got to put it out there and as Brene Brown would say...step into the arena!⠀
