Happy Sunday 👑
I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.
Had my daughter, her family and my son over for lunch yesterday. We had a lovely day and took lots of pics but none of me. I was the photographer. Took lots of pics of my daughter and my grandkids.
And no this is not my quote.
Growing up, I struggled with both depression and anxiety. Despite today being World Mental Health Day, mental health should be something we talk about and promote regularly. More support needs to be shown, especially to those without a support system.
When I first started writing on Instagram, putting ink onto paper was my way of connecting with my inner self. It allowed me to celebrate the person I used to be while embracing the person I became. I had no idea my words would reach thousands. But they did.
I remember when I received my first inbox message from a person I didn’t know. He shared a tidbit of his story and proceeded to tell me I had just saved his life. The intensity that was felt from reading this person’s message sent chills to my bones. That day, I realized my words had the power to impact—even if it was just one person. I continued to write for that reason. Writing became about wanting to make a real difference. And I knew I had it in me to take on that role.
My mission was to break two stigmas: one associated with mental health and the other associated with being a Muslim man who happens to speak on such sensitive topics that don’t normally get discussed. After being pushed down over and over again, I wanted to transform my painful experiences into healing words of hope that would help others to rise from the ashes of their own despair.
I want to create a community where people feel comfortable enough to speak up when it seems there is nowhere else to turn. I want to create a safe space that invites new perspective and ways of thinking. We are all different in our experiences and the way we live through them. But collectively, we are more connected than we realize. Learning about someone else’s story can be the one thing you need to awaken to the realization that you are never alone.
I hope that my words reach deep into your depths and help you to soar. I hope they encourage you to make the best decisions for yourself, even if they go against what others expect out of you. And I hope you find peace in the knowledge that no matter where you are right now, your current destination is never final.
