“I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles”... #smile#happiness#reflection

Fall is officially here & It’s a new week to start fresh!!! There is nothing like the brisk fresh air, beautiful fall leaves & the smell of pumpkin spice latte!!! This season definitely is a great time for reflection & transition. What have you done that’s working for you? What have you done that’s not working for you? Maybe it’s a great time to make some changes or even just to reflect, maybe do some soul searching. It’s fall!!! So take it all in and enjoy the freshness!!! Remember it’s never to late to start fresh and make changes, seasons do change!!! Happy Monday!!!
I recently f*cked up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I mismanaged some details and expectations in a collaboration, and the other party was left feeling disappointed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When they shared honest feedback with me that was both cringe-worthy and helpful, something Seth Godin shared with me years ago came to mind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He said (and I’m paraphrasing): The wrong question to ask is “What if I fail?” You will fail. We all do. The better question is: “What will I do when I fail?”
I realized I had only one choice here: to own up to my mistake, and take responsibility. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are the steps I took to navigate the situation: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Take responsibility & apologize — Since I f*cked up, I had to own it. I acknowledged where I fell short, and the impact it had on them. I realized that while I can’t change what happened, I was now responsible for how I repaired the situation. Being proactive is key.
2. Reflect on what happened & what you learned — I took a step back to get perspective by asking: Why did this happen? How did I get myself in this situation? What did I learn here?
3. Make a commitment — Failures help us learn and grow so long as we take the time to reflect on how we’ll prevent it from happening again in the future. Once I felt clear on the key learnings, I made a new commitment to myself moving forward so I’ll prevent a repeat of the situation.
4. Forgive yourself — Shaming myself wouldn’t help me heal or move forward. I’m not a bad person. I made a few well-intentioned but not well-thought out mistakes. I’m human. I’m learning. And this was an important lesson on my journey. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To learning and growing! ✨
