Ruckelrenovering i Ligurien, stagione uno - sezione 92:
Snart tbx i rucklet så häng me... !

Our living room fireplace - this is the before picture. It will be a while until we have an after picture!
Things to note:
- tools on the hearth - and we have a 1 year old 🙈
- grate loaded with coal and wood - left by the people who sold us the house... we think we need to get the flue tested before we even look for the matches. I actually fancy a log burner...
- the hood above the grate - what do you think? If I clean it will I find copper?
- the remnants of the balloon arch from our housewarming / Hector’s first birthday last month (yes, I made Marcus blow up 56 balloons the night we moved in)
- red tiles - these will not be staying... sorry! - the wooden surround - we absolutely love the design! Hoping it will look good painted 🤞🏻
- packing boxes to the right (some empty!)
- giftbags to the left (thanks housewarmwers!)
- an old pipe sticking up, hinting at a gas supply that has not been connected for years (but scheduled to be reinstalled next month!)
So be forewarned this isn’t the most beautiful pic. But it matters. Because even when I was in the middle of homecoming week (class sponsor), a friends barn wedding (husband was best man, I was a bridesmaid, and the kids were ring bearers), and I still had to teach - I still made progress on my kitchen.
I need to sand the wood trim, finish caulking and then I’ll need to paint the doors before installing cabinet hardware. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I can get my cabinets done.
I made progress even when it was hard, even when I was tired, even when I was busy. It’s just so nice to have cabinet doors in my kitchen again
Timelapse Part 29: This was such an exciting video to film as it finally shows part of @athena.camper in a liveable and finished state! And it’s quite a useful part. Our bed and sofa design was a big one for us, it cuts a lot of storage but in our last van with a fixed bed and seatbelt seats we never felt like we were ever comfortable. It’s more effort to make every day, but well worth it!
Jack laughed all the way through me filming the process of sofa to bed, as I smashed myself in the face with the table and smashed the ceiling with one piece of the bed along with nearly dropping part of the bedding before it even made it to the bed. It’s easier than I made it looked I promise 😂
Fridge in, bedding ready, I think we’re ready for a trip to Dartmoor National Park!
We also moved onto fitting in dropout vents for the gas cupboard and below where the hob is going so we don’t end up gassing ourselves, very important!
Swipe to see an aerial photo of the trench dug to the full depth, taken from the upstairs window. Gives a real sense of the footprint we're adding to the house 😃
We're also extending to the side of the house, so there's more digging to do, but we won't be able to get in there with the mini digger so that will all have to be by hand.
Today is the last chance to enter to win a free stay for you or a friend at #casaOcotilloABQ ! I’ll be announcing the winner tomorrow!! Check out Monday’s #giveaway post for details on how to enter! 🌵🌈

Just waiting for the skirting boards and the panelling to be finished and this room will be complete for decorating... oh the doors, some plastering and a few other bits but a room could be finished in the next week or so! Can’t wait! Anyone else get this feeling... waiting to dress the room! Had a few questions about the flooring and few people wondering what it’s like... LVT is a luxury vinyl tile that’s a wood effect. It’s hard wearing, easy to clean and ideal for high traffic areas, pets, and busy lives etc. we have gone for two types @projectfloorsuk and @amticoflooring. Will do another post about it once I get this room done. #mydailyrenovation
The end of day four of week four and the huge pile of earth outside the back door has magically disappeared ✨
I went out to Pilates this morning and when I came back, the base of the extension had been covered over in pink gravel (fancy) and had been tamped down to form a smooth base.
They’ve begun covering this over with insulating board, and in turn that will be covered over tomorrow with concrete.
The steels have also been ordered and they will be arriving tomorrow and (apparently) the first steel will be put into place 😝
It’s totally amazing watching this process; our builder is so old school in the way that he works. It’s lovely to watch 😊
This picture pretty much sums up our evenings a the moment... DUST, DUST & more DUST 🙈
Insta reality behind a renovation / build project- dusty shoes, socks, trainers & much more. A slightly new angle compared to the pretty corner yesterday 🤷🏼♀️ .

getting me out of bed prior to our bedroom update was already a process (swipe to see... wouldn't that room have you running to get far far away? i guess i really like my sleep). and now that it looks like this? you better have coffee, donuts or mimosas waiting for me downstairs if you want me to even think about leaving. i partnered with @truevalue to share just how much a coat of paint can transform a room. we went from dark and uninviting to a peaceful and modern space. today on the blog we're sharing all the behind the scenes of where we started and how we got here. link in bio to see all of the details! #ad#EasyCarePaint
The front half of the roof is FINALLY ready for slating, and I am very happy to say we are starting to prep the back half of the house!
No before and after photo needed for this phase... we could just take a photo from our ridge line to compare the straight, level lines of the front half of the roof to the wonky, mishapen back.
There was a HUGE learning curve to get through for this prep - especially for me, as I was learning how to do basic (and not so basic) carpentry, while learning how to prep a roof for slates! With some hiccups and weather slowing us down, it took us 3 WEEKS to get to this point, but we're feeling hopeful that the back section will be a LOT quicker, with a bit of experience under our belt, and less complicated carpentry to be done.
