Our communities are pet-friendly!
A survey of 1,000 visitors to the Seniors Housing Online website showed 38.4% considered "pets allowed" to be an essential criteria when searching for retirement property; a further 22.7% said it was desirable; while only 39% said it was not a factor in their search. This suggests that around 61% of website visitors want pet friendly properties! Accommodating a much loved family pet is often a major practical consideration when downsizing. And even if you don't currently have a pet you may still want the option of being able to get one later on. There are many studies reinforcing how pets offer companionship and contribute towards a healthier and more social lifestyle for their owners. (Article from downsizing.com.au)

As a doctor who works up to 80 hours a week, self-care is a must. In order for me to thrive in my career, it’s imperative that I avoid burnout by practicing good mental health. Since I’m still in residency and haven’t started making the “big bucks” just yet, I need to do this on a budget. Here are six affordable ways I practice self-care:
1. Prioritize “Me” Time.
2. Schedule “Self-care” days.
3. Have a “Ladies Night”
4. Indulge in “Simple Pleasures.”
5. Do an “Activity of the Month.” 6. ”Recharge” with people you love.
You can read the full blog on my website, link in bio. Don't forget to subscribe to get the newest blog sent directly to your email at the start of each week :)

Are you saving money in a retirement account? How much do you save? I didn’t save start saving for retirement until I was 26. This doesn’t bother me though because now I’m maxing out my accounts and doing great. Plus, I can’t rewind time. I have a Small Business 401k and Roth IRA with Vanguard. 🙌🏼 (P.S. this is a Canva template so no one thinks I copy other peoples Instagram graphics 😂). My favorite retirement/investing books are in an earlier IG post! Just look for “favorite personal finance books”.
In 1936, the Long Island Commemorative Half Dollar was struck to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the first European settlement there. With over 100,000 mintage and nearly 20,000 melted, this coin has a higher population. That is unless you find it in a MS67 or higher like we did. This MS67 #CAC is has a population of 73 and one of the most undervalued commemorative’s in that grade. It gives anyone curious about owning a commemorative a great starting place for such a low cost!

With @pacificlife one of many providers we work with. We are here to help you with your finances.
2012 - “Our” (married at the time) financial situation REALLY started to change. My husband got out the military and worked a civilian job. He struggled with a drug addiction and quit his civilian job to enter an in-residence treatment in California.
As if some sick joke, I found out I was pregnant with our first child (my second). He ended up leaving the treatment center to come home when I was 4 months pregnant.
If you've never lived with an addict here are some words that describe the experience: Lies, deceit, screaming, crying, instability, anxiety, paranoia, and sometimes violent. Using drugs isn't a one-person experience - EVERYONE under the roof gets sucked into the drama.
When i noticed $15k went missing from our savings, I moved the remainder into an account in my name alone. That was the end of our joint finances. He helped financially when he could, and when he was around.
Some people want a fast car, lots of money or a big house...I’ll take this.

This week our social outing group went to Geelong Boat House.
There's nothing quite like a walk along the seaside, good conversation with friends and fish and chips for lunch!
Next Friday we are off to Lilydale Lake - who's coming with?
I met a guy at work today named “Cat Man Kelly”. He’s riding his bike around the continental US, has already hit up all 48, headed southwest for the winter. Had one heck of a rig with his kitties along for the ride! Fed him some lunch and a couple brews and sent him on his way. Cool cat! Safe travels friend, and cheers! He’s heading towards Athens now so if you see him give him room! #bikelife#retirementgoals

Did you know that 10,000 baby boomers are reaching retirement age every single day? Over the years, I've helped many retirees find a home that works for them, whether it's in a new city, in a new community, or nearby their family. Recently this hit home for me because my parents are at the point where they're considering selling their home and maybe moving into something better suited for their current lifestyle. Most people think that must mean downsizing to a smaller home, but that isn't always the case. I've seen several people who have downsize to the extreme, and are very unhappy because it's just not enough space and it just isn't like home. My parents, along with other people, are looking for a home that's more manageable and allows more freedom. For my parents, it means not having the stress of all the maintenance that comes with owning a larger home and allows them to travel at will. The way I see it is you should love where you live, but not be tied down, so you can enjoy everything life has to offer. If you're a point were you looking for something new, and want the ability to travel and do all the things you have always wanted to do, read the article below and see what you think about smart sizing rather than downsizing. If you have any questions, please reach out!
With longer life spans, steep medical costs, and high costs in general, the replacement income estimate has been increased to 126% of your pre-retirement income. Make sure you're on track for a comfortable retirement!
My dad has gotten a creative bug in his retirement. First he started making barn quilts for anyone who wanted one (and even a few who didn’t want one) and now he’s making Little Free Libraries! After he made my sister a library that matched her house, I quickly put in my order that was delivered today!
Some of my favorite features are the functioning solar panel that activates lights when the door is opened and 4 pretty kitties looking out each of the windows!
Even though it’s clear he could definitely sell these things, my dad said that making money off them would take all the fun out of building them. That’s what retirement is all about!
I have decided to max out my retirement contributions.
After leaving my full-time job, I had to decide how I was going to fund my retirement after becoming self-employed.
At my day job, I had a 401k that had a Roth IRA portion (my investment dollars) and a Traditional 401k portion (employer contributions and profit sharing). The Roth portion was made using post-tax dollars and the traditional 401k was made using pre-tax dollars.
When thinking about retirement while self-employed, I also had to strategize what was going to save the most money for tax purposes as a business.
Ultimately, I decided that opening a 401k for my business was the best option.
I rolled over my traditional 401k into a new 401k account under my business AND rolled the Roth portion into a new Roth IRA under my name.
I decided not to roll over the Roth portion from my old 401k into my new 401k because I wanted to leave the option open to contribute to my Roth using a backdoor contribution.
Essentially, I make too much money to contribute to a Roth IRA, but I can still do it using a Roth Conversion. It's just a fancy way, and means more administrative work, of converting traditional IRA assets into an already existing Roth IRA. I can convert, I just can't contribute.
I can contribute up to $19k every year from my business paycheck every month, which is employee contributions.
But here's how a 401k for my business can save on taxes - I can also contribute up to $56,000 as the employer, which means I don't have to include that amount as taxable income.
Now that I am debt free, I'm moving straight to Baby Step 7. I'm also working on Baby Step 5, which is contributing to my son's education account. I'm doing both steps at the same time. Yes, I can do that.
Have you started contributing to retirement? If your employer matches, you should take advantage of the match. In my opinion, that needs to happen regardless of what Baby Step your're on.
Every single choice we make affects us in some way in the future. Even the small ones. It’s important to be aware of the decisions we make, as it can make a considerable difference not just in your life but in others. Whether it’d be for relationships, career, well-being or finance; being conscious of this can be a reflection on where you will go.
