I've started on a revisit to The Infernal Devices trilogy. I was meaning to do it for a while but since finishing Chain Of Gold, I thought it was time.
It has been a long time since I read this trilogy, in fact if I remember correctly I read it in quick succession after The Mortal Instruments. So I think I would always have a special place in my heart for it. Although I did worry in case that nostalgia had worn off.
Overall, I was relived to find my views had not changed too much. Clockwork Angel has alot of hard work to do in order to set up this new time period for the Shadowhunters world. Which is done well and with alot of depth. Same can be said in relation to the intriguing cast of characters we meet. I feel one of its strengths lies in having a smaller core cast who you can get invested in. Which I didn't feel as much with Chain Of Gold.
In terms of setting, I'm always a little biased when stories are set in England as I like the familiarity it brings.
Clockwork Angel's weakness lies with its pacing which I thought did drag a little more than I remembered.
In summary, Clockwork Angel isn't going to shock anyone but does deliver a promising start with engaging characters who you'll want to continue to follow throughout the series.
