We come to y’all with some sad news today. We will be moving to New Mexico next weekend and will unfortunately have to close shop. Thanks to those who supported our small journey these past few months. We’ll be back in Texas in 6 months and are planning to reopen then. Thanks again. #theowlsprouts#handmade#thankyou#mcallen#rgv#tx#texas
Happy 50th birthday to Valley drag pioneer Taylor Monroe.
Celebrate with these pics from 1998 of Taylor’s Studio 54-themed birthday bash at McAllen’s 10th Avenue.
Taylor grew up in Weslaco in the 70s and 80s and faced discrimination and harassment as a high school student growing up during the height of the AIDS crisis and the resulting stigma against the gay community. She left the Valley as a teen and moved to San Antonio- where she became a part of the city’s vibrant drag community. When she returned to the Valley in the early 1990s, she began performing at 10th Avenue where she drew attention for her tight lipsync, the bright and intense colors she used for her makeup (“they used to call me the Cindy Lauper of drag,” she recalls), her eclectic music choices (“I wanted to stand out as much as possible”) and her sultry performances.
For her birthday of that year, Taylor staged an elaborate production inspired by Studio 54. Studio 54 was an iconic New York City nightclub open during the 1970s known for its celebrity guests and wild, drug-fueled parities. In 1998, the club received renewed attention due to a big budget Hollywood movie titled Studio 54 set during the club’s 70s heyday. The original cut of the film featured frank depictions of bisexuality and the male lead (played by Ryan Phillipe) engaging in sexual encounters with both men and women. Due to studio intervention, most of the queer content was removed from the film’s final cut. The film was a critical and commercial failure, but has developed a queer cult following- which grew after the release of the Director’s Cut featuring much of the original queer content.
This Studio-54 themed performance featuring vintage costumes and choreography drew the attention of local radio station B104- who would soon contact Taylor and some of the other queens to perform before a largely straight audience later that year to celebrate the station’s anniversary (more on that story later). #throwbackthursday : The evolution of a logo (Est. 2008) 🦘
The most identifiable brands in the world have undergone logo rebranding, whether it's small tweaks, like Coca-Cola, to complete rebrands like Apple or Microsoft.
Our brains process visual information 60,000 times faster than text. Meaning that having a logo that resonates with your audience is extremely important.
What does this mean for YOUR COMPANY?
1️⃣ Keep your logo, and therefore your branding, CONSISTENT throughout your marketing materials. Your business card, hat, shirt, utility vehicle, and website should all have the same logo and colors.
2️⃣ Choose a COLOR that evokes a certain emotion in you and also in your audience. For example, red conveys gravity and dignity, passion that invokes action. Blue instills trust and loyalty.
Color psychology emerged in the 1800s, it showed how colors affect our brain's enjoying sensors in many ways. Check out our friend @nictecreativedesign for a greater understanding of color theory.
3️⃣ Keep it simple! Don't confuse your audience with intricate logos that are easily forgettable. Remember, people have short attention spans.
Wordless logos, that have a flat design are more readable on small screens or on a monochrome black and white style.
If your logo was black and white, would it still pack a punch?
We've changed our logo and branding colors quite a few times in our almost 12 years in business. We even had a mascot at one point! 😆🦘 #gojoey#babykangaroo
What about you? Do you feel you have an effective logo?

"When I had my accident, I didn’t know what to do. My Mom had given me a pen and told me to call Tijerina Legal Group to handle my case. Busy from work and didn’t have time. My Mom kept pushing me til I called the firm. The Staff was Very Friendly And was Interested in my needs. They treated me like Family. I am Very Pleased with the outcome I received from my Settlement. I Would Definitely Recommend The Law Firm to Everyone needing legal advice just like my Mom did to me. Thank You Mr. Tijerina, Mr. Palmas, Monica, Angie, And All Your Staff. Everyone was So Kind and Caring. I Am Very Blessed 🙏 😊." — Jeannie M.
Calling our local law enforcement community, family and friends! RGV/Willacy County, come on out for what’s sure to be a fun morning for all! #rgv#rgvrunning

The “Huevos Benitos” from @tlahcomexicankitchen are so tasty! Had a good lunch today and tried several of their dishes with my buddy @eatmigos ! Stop by San Antonio if you’re looking for true down south Mexican flavors & not the everyday Tex-Mex.
I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how I shop, how I’m able to afford designer goods, or where I get my things from... From now on I’ll be posting how much things cost me & where they came from because it’s been increasingly annoying for me to see other bloggers/influencers post ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️⬇️ • 1. Things they themselves cannot afford?! (How do you expect your audience to afford it 🤔🤔)
2. Outfits that look like they were taken straight off the mannequin?? (Where is the inspiration? Personal style? What are you doing?)
3. The same stagnant look everyone else has already done.. (SNOOZE! Again what is the point??) • Anyways.. I Digress!

Day 19 of #30daysofbiblelettering Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,

bringing his sheaves with him. Psalm 126:5-6
