Nursery and Reception had a wonderful time at our Barnardo’s Toddle. They toddled around our beautiful grounds collecting baubles and ribbons to put on our Barnardo's tree, whilst wearing their Father Christmas hats.
This years fundraising brings the total now raised by Rye St Antony families for Barnardo's to £2,929.80 since we began fundraising six years ago. Thank you to all the parents, friends and work colleagues who have supported this event.

Day 13 and it’s a Friday, or is that FriYay? Anyway, kicking off the weekend, for those that know me, know I love Glenfiddich, heck my all time favourite is coming up in 12 days. But for now we’re trying the ‘Fiddich 18Years old, 40% and it’s one of the very few Glenfiddich’s that I’m not that fond of.
Now I’ll just say that my non fondness is not because the whisky isn’t delightful, it’s just that it’s too delicate and soft for what I like to drink. So now that you know, let me get into the tasting, as you may very well like what’s in this bottle.
At 40% strength, it doesn’t have far to go, so adding water is out for me, but I’d be keen to taste it at a higher ABV, maybe some of the daintiness would subside and a bit of the fight would come out that I know is there.
Apples and pears, dunked in cinnamon water, maybe a little chardonnay on the nose, followed by flavours of dates, mandarins and brown sugar follow through.
The finish is relatively short, it’ll still warm you up on a cold night, but you’ll need to keep you’re glass topped up if you want the warmth to carry you through the night.
Overall I declare this a great entry whisky when it comes to the taste (maybe not the wallet) but just not that challenging.
So on my Aussie taste scale, I rate this an Ain’t Bad but with a caveat that this rating is from someone who enjoys a lot of whisky and looks for challenges, but for the new to the wonderful world of whisky, I would rate this a Ripper whisky and worth a try.
