Happy #wontlookwednesday everyone!
Any guesses about what I’m staring at? 🧐
DISCLAIMER: On one of my previous posts, I received several comments from people concerned about Walter’s collar, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to clear up any misconceptions you guys might have. It is called a prong collar and it is used to teach leash manners. Contrary to what some might believe, it does not cause Walter any pain and it is not used as a torture device (yes, that is one of the comments I received). It is a small discomfort that reminds him not to tug on the leash when out and about. Fun fact: a dog’s neck is relatively 30 times stronger than a human neck. Crazy!
That being said, ANY collar can harm a dog if used improperly...even a normal, every-day collar. Anytime you purchase a new collar, leash or any other product for your dog, ALWAYS do your research beforehand to ensure you won’t accidentally harm them (or harm yourself). Before I bought this collar for Walter, I consulted trainers and vet professionals to make sure it was the right decision for us because not every training collar is suitable for every dog. A collar such as this should be used for training purposes only. It is not meant to be a permanent walking collar. While I am not a professional trainer or vet, I have done a lot of research on this topic because I want Walter to have the best care we can provide. So if you have questions or want more information on how to use this kind of collar correctly, please message me or @hay_bails26 (my most trusted friend who is also a vet tech) 👍🏼 Another note: the collar should be sitting higher on the dog’s neck than it is in this photo. This photo was taken the day I got the collar a few weeks back. It had not been fitted properly at the time since we had not gone on a walk yet, however it is fitted correctly now! -
