My god, look at this incredible salt lake in Bolivia, right next to Chile 😲. Each and every photo shows it’s different colours but this is my favourite shot. Just stunning. Ain’t Mother Nature a grand old dame? Love, Blondie 😘.
Laguna Verde is a beautiful natural salt lake near Chile border in Bolivia. It is one of the best views on the Salar de Uyuni road. It is a high altitude salt lake known for its green colour. The surrounding Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean Fauna features hot springs plus vicunas, condors and several species of flamingo.
When the sky and the ground are the same colour. 🧐
Strange experience flying over huge salt lakes. The horizon was very hard to see and it wasn’t clear if it was a true horizon or a false horizon (or, like in the pictures, a reflection of the cockpit 😜).
Strong winds creating a white salty filter didn’t help. It demanded low flying to maintain visibility, which isn’t usually a challenge, but when establishing vertical distance is also hard (imagine flying in a cloud), it becomes a little more challenging, requiring a greater level of trust & dependency on instruments (though it was absolutely the combination of both, given potentially significant QNH variance from the prior outback landing site).
New Learning: Looking down through my sling fix-point marks (on the landing gear) made vertical referencing easier (clearer) than looking ahead, and came in useful for height checks for landing.
Stepping out, felt like I was on the moon (only a lot hotter at 37C 😅 and while dry to touch, the salt was really sludgy on my shoes. Weird. 😎). .
Jeez. Just as I think flying can’t get any better.... 😍
Non-flying humans [who have the privilege to afford it], are absolutely freaking mad not to experience stuff like this!! Absolutely freaking awesome. ♥️
Happy weekend you crazy bunch! 😘
PS: just confirmed that I will be at #haiheliexpo 2020 in Anaheim. Hope to see you all there! 🤘😎🚁🚁🚁
You don't need magic to disappear, all you need is a destination ✨

The one thing i noticed about the south, was the build up of salt lakes, some quite inland.... in farming areas
This happen way back, when once oceans covered the land 'slowly its receeded, an evaporated and leaving behind the salt and minerals...
The colours pinkish to whites

A few years ago we visited Owens Valley and the once lakeside town of Keeler.
Owens Lake was never restored after LA diverted it's water. The dust storms were intense. The environmental disaster was only mitigated by expensive dust abatement methods.
The Salton Sea residents are also victims of environmental injustice. The term restoration has been replaced by mitigation. Outsiders that visit call our communities ghost towns. It may sound dramatic in their Instagram posts but how does it help those of us still living here?
We are forgotten, neglected and buried under dust of future storms.
Keeler is often described as abandoned but it's not. The words of a woman I spoke to will forever haunt me: "Don't you know, this is a ghost town. I'm not really here, you can't actually see me". Perhaps that statement is a reflection of feeling invisible to the authorities and water agencies that stole their life-giving water so many years ago
We always say how lucky we are to have pink salt lakes scattered throughout @Westerntaustralia, but now we can add fluro to the list! 🤩 Captured in the Wheatbelt town of Kondinin, this lake has been changing colour a lot recently, with this bright yellow hue coming from the algae that only occurs at this time of the year! At other times of the year, it can be pink or even an icy blue. Fascinating Mother Nature at it again 💚 Add this salt lake to your Wheatbelt road trip today! 📷 @phillstagram_photo
Hello and welcome to my lake! 😁 Lake Ballard is home to 51 fantastic metal sculptures that span over the whole lake, and create the Antony Gormley "Inside Australia" exhibition, the largest outdoor art gallery on Earth! A must see in the Goldfields region of @WesternAustralia 📸 @dmjmorley 📍 Lake Ballard, Menzies, the Goldfields, @Australia

When you visit Lake Lefroy you almost feel like you're on the moon 🌝 This giant lake has a clay pan base covered in a salt crust, making it seem like endless plains of the magical white surface. One of the perfect spots in the Goldfields region for drone photography as it looks sensational from above 📸 📷 @wrenees 📍 Lake Lefroy, Kambalda, in the Goldfields region of @WesternAustralia@Australia
Have you visited Lake Ballard? Just a 3-hour drive from Kalgoorlie, through the town of Menzies, lies a salt lake with plains as far as the eye can see. You'll feel like you've been transported to a new planet while you roam around exploring the 51 Antony Gormley steel statues, and this small hill with names decorating the borders. A great day trip while you're in the Goldfields region of @westernaustralia. 📸 @mattfieldes_photog 📍 Lake Ballard, Menzies, in the Goldfields region, Western Australia, @australia@kalgoorliebouldervisitorcentre
