FLORENCE : City of Art
We have heard so much about Firenze, the Renaissance Capital.
After a few days spent in the calm and natural Park of Cinque Terre, we needed a little time to adjust to the big city and its many tourists.
We walked about 20km in a day, going from a monument to another, strolling in the very charming streets... We loved Florence. But one thing was sure, the Florentines did not like us much!
Certainly, the high season might be no fun for them being suddenly invaded by thousands of tourists. .
Between two streets, we arrived in front of the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore, and were speechless facing such Grandeur.
The architecture of the city makes you go back in time. Do not miss the sunset on the Piazzale Michelangelo, for the view on the entire city and the River Arno.
👉🏼 We strongly suggest you - if you can - to avoid July and August. The many tourists make it impossible to enjoy the city at its best. All the museums are booked much in advance, and you cannot hope to plan anything last minute.
👉🏼 We booked a Palazzo - a heritage "palace" earlier owned by wealthy families - and we loved being in an architectural wonder, very different from any common hotel. 👉🏼 Our Palazzo was on the other side of the Arno, a 10-minute walk from the main attractions, which made it very pleasant to not be always the tourist agitation. Also, the price was very decent for a night (80€) for such a beautiful building.
👉🏼 3 to 4 days are necessary to visit the entire city with rushing. Count less if you do not want to visit the museums.
👉🏼 Book your entry tickets to the different museums of the city prior to your trip, especially during the high season. You will find a lot of combo offers online.

💡Interesting facts :
🔸 The Duomo has 463 stone steps, which, if you can climb to the top you can reach the cupola for a close-up of The Last Judgement and a sweeping view of the city.
🔸The emblem of Florence is a red lily, the representation of which derives from the Florentine iris, a white flower that was very common in the local area.
