Q. Did you know that you can book a virtual elephant tour? 🐘 💕
Due to the current global COVID-19 crises where many countries are on lock-down elephant sanctuaries are suffering from the huge drop in tourist income. More than 1,000 elephants may face starvation in Thailand, conservationists say.
To try to combat this, Trunk Asia has created a virtual “date with an elephant” campaign where people can book to have a private 30min video date with elephants at sanctuaries. Through a virtual trip, visitors will learn about the trunk, the sanctuaries and how they care for the elephants, they will meet and “virtually” feed the elephants and have interactive games and educational quizzes to help educate and find out more about these amazing places.
#savetheplanet#bekindtoanimals#savetheelephants Posted @withregram • @sheldricktrust Lualeni and her herd may be late to the party, but they still know how to make a grand entrance! Because she was orphaned when she was just three months old, she didn’t have the opportunity to grow up in the wild alongside her own family, but her story has finally come full circle. After being in our care for over a decade, first at the Nursery and then at our Ithumba Reintegration Unit, she’s finally back where she belongs — living wild in Tsavo alongside some her closest friends. And that tiny calf you see, running along at an admirable clip? That’s Lulu, Lualeni’s firstborn daughter! Babies like Lulu are the ultimate symbol of the success of our Orphans’ Project, testament to just how seamlessly our orphans are able to live as wild elephants.
Your support makes success stories like Lualeni’s possible. To learn more about Lualeni, check out or stories — and if you are able, please consider donating to help us care for the 100+ orphaned elephants still in our care:
Zarafa Dhow Suites is fittingly named: Zarafa means ‘the beloved one’ or ‘the lovely one’ in Arabic and these two private villas on the banks of the Zibadianja Lagoon in Botswana are both beloved and lovely.
The villas strike a careful balance between romance and adventure, with the opulent décor in reds, browns, brass and copper. They are strongly reminiscent of the richness and beauty of Africa, with more than a passing nod to its history - the decks are made of century-old teak railroad ties. Canopy ceilings fall to open sides for the best of the sensational views. Linking the two en suite bedrooms in each suite or villa is a lounge and dining area, fronted by a large deck and private swimming pool. A fire pit is a romantic place to sit in the evenings.
Five elephants were infected with TB at the Oregon Zoo. Rama, Tusko and Packy are now deceased. Shortly after Packy’s death in February of 2017, Shine was diagnosed with this highly contagious disease. Seven zoo staff members also tested positive for TB. Then in 2019 Chendra was infected with an active strain of TB. In the wild, the only time wild elephants get this disease is when they come in contact with humans. Zoo and circus elephants are highly susceptible to TB. They often live in cramped, small spaces and in wet and cold environments, which make the elephants more likely to get TB.
But, what IS TB? : Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially fatal contagious disease that can affect almost any part of the body but is mainly an infection of the lungs. It is caused by a bacterial microorganism, the tubercle bacillus or Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although TB can be treated, cured, and can be prevented if persons at risk take certain drugs, scientists have never come close to wiping it out. Few diseases have caused so much distressing illness for centuries and claimed so many lives.

Did you know that just as we are left or right handed, elephants can be left or right tusked?! 🐘
They use them for defence, offence, digging, lifting objects, gathering food and stripping bark from trees to eat! 🥰

How handsome is this man?!
He is also a self isolator, as male bull elephants tend to be loners, following and moving between herds of females and their calves looking for potential lady friends 😘
I bought an elephant! April Fools! I just hugged one. 🐘💕 If you all have the chance to visit the Endangered Ark Foundation in OK, please do! (After this quarantine of course!) They are doing great work there!
