Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH), another favourite destination for Malaysian and I was one of them. Why BiH? Mostly because of beautiful scenery, history, Muslim friendly country and cheaper than European countries.. (and I went twice because of one lovely family who stays close to my heart). I don't check the actual statistic but I think the most visited place in BiH is Mostar (the photo in my story) due to Stari Most popularity & to visit Blagaj from there. Few tips I think important for first timers planning for a trip to Mostar as part of Balkan trip:
1- There are 2 bus stations in Mostar, east & west. The most convenient bus station is the main one, located at the east and next to train station because you can reach the city center and old bridge (Stari Most) and most accommodation by foot. I only realized this when the family I want to visit was planning to pick me at the bus station from my second trip to BiH (I took an overnight bus Vienna-Zagreb-Sarajevo-Mostar but the ticket does not mentioned east nor west and I bought the ticket spontaneously for both trips).
2- Most people visiting Mostar for day trip from Dubrovnik, Croatia. I recommend to have an overnight stay at minimum because Mostar offers more than the old bridge and Blagaj Tekija. Do not overlook the majestic mountains around this city! You can hike, enjoy breathtaking aerial view of Mostar and try zip-line from the mountain's summits. Note: The old bridge is quite steep and slippery, high heels should be avoided.
3- Having Muslim as majority does not means you can have Halal food at every restaurant. In Mostar, the Neretva river can be a good indicator to identify the places for Halal food. For Muslim, look for those located at the same side of the mosques. Avoid those from the same side of the church. .
Sunsets, lights and lanterns—Experiencing the lantern festival meant a lot more to me than you’d ever expect. It felt like a redo of a particularly awful moment this time last year. I’m so thankful I could experience this moment again with the people I love and care for.
