The parental unit was guiding today after deciding that Mike was a little too excited to get a nail gun. Mike was benched while the women had to take over construction. On a exciting note we tested out some finish paint on the bench. The first coat looks good but we probably need two more.
New replacement plywood has been installed today!!! 🥳🥳🥳 It looks so much better! Excited to place the subfloor in the next days 🤓
Also we cut the driver floor mat so that the driver seat can go back to its place 💺
We are exhausted after 11 days of full on work but everyday is gratifying in the most indescribable way!!!!! 💪🏼
Charles Darwin said “Work ennobles man” and that’s very true 😍
TRD is worth less than a dollar more now that @sharleeannb has urethaned some change to the floor. 😁 I seam sealed the roof, losing about a pound of water in the Oregon sun. Lastly we were able to brainstorm a solution to the weak door lock. I angle grinded the bolt slot that isn’t normally used and it provides additional support for bolt. Much more secure now, and still has the ability to be unlocked from the outside.
When planning our build, it was important for us to have as much natural light as we could so we incorporated a skylight in our design. It brightens the kitchen and brings a touch of nature indoors when we're parked in a place such as this one.
What many people don't know is that we originally installed two skylights. We had the second one over our bed. Unfortunately, when our solar panels came in, we realized that there was not enough space to fit all six panels up there if we were to keep both skylights. In addition to the skylights, we had to work around the AC unit, the flue for the fireplace and the exhaust pipe for the propane heater. We tried many different variations for positioning the panels but it simply couldn't fit with everything else up there. We weren't willing to have one less panel so the only choice we had was to remove the skylight over the bed.
Even with as much planning as we put into our build, there were still things that we had to redo or undo altogether. Those things were both a waste of time and money but very much part of the learning process, being our first time doing anything like this. Believe me, we didn't get everything right the first time but what's important is that we didn't give up.
For those of you who are in the middle of a conversion and feel overwhelmed, just remember that persistency will get you to the end. Take a break from it if you need to (we took many) but get back at it when you're ready and keep on going. You can do it! 🧡
Every night Nora gets her bath first, and then has to sit right by Atlas while he gets his. That’s pretty much how it is these days... wherever Atlas is, you’ll find Nora right next to him. She has become quite attached to her brother and it’s the sweetest thing🤎 It’s the simple moments like this where I just smile at this life we’ve created together.
How are we supposed to get any work done in the bus with this sweet little guy just staring at us😍 This week we’ve been doing a lot of cleaning inside the bus to prep for our couch and kitchen table reno! We are hoping to finally get around to that project in the next month or so. We’re still adjusting to life as a family of 4 and don’t want to rush right into things, so we’re just taking our time and making sure we have everything all planned out. So while Ian takes measurements and draws out the design, I’ll be right here watching him make the cutest little faces😁
Pay attention to who is around you when you feel your best ⛰🚐✌🏻
