The Forest Lodge at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve on South Africa’s western cape is one of the best lodging experiences we have ever had. 🙌🏻@grootbos is one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World, and for good reason. The lodge itself is stunning. Set within a massive nature reserve, Forest Lodge is the epitome of eco-luxe, with a minimalistic, relaxing, nature first focus, awe inspiring views, an incredibly knowledgeable staff, delicious food, and an emphasis on preservation and education that will stay with you always. Thank you Kelly, Princess, Beauty, Anna, Maria, Amanda, Byron and the rest of the staff for the wonderful stay! If you are planning a trip to the Western Cape, Forest Lodge should be at the top of your list for accommodations!
A Botanical Safari? 🤔 Yeah, we had our doubts too... but it was really cool! Grootbos Nature Reserve is made up of over 6000 acres of protected fynbos featuring hundreds of magical plant species native just to this part of South Africa. 🌱 The way these stunning plants have evolved to attract pollinators 🐝, survive fire, and more is truly fascinating. Our favorites are the Lazy Protea (which we renamed the Efficient Protea 😂) and the Pincushion Protea shown here 👆🏻 @grootbos is also home to dozens of animal species and an incredible thousand year old milkwood forest. A Grootbos botanical safari is a really great outdoor activity for people of all physical abilities, as you travel through the massive reserve in a land cruiser, not on foot, taking in unbelievable vistas, getting up close with plants and birds, and learning all about this remarkable place. And thanks to our highly knowledgeable guide Kelly, we were able to get deep into what makes this place and everything that grows here so, so special.
If you’re looking for a more active trek, you can also horseback or hike through the fynbos.

In the house of Amilcar Cabral, general secretary of the African Party for the Independence of Guiné and Cape Verde (PAIGC), which he organized in 1956, and who, with weapons in hand, faced Portuguese colonialism until he achieved independence, he was killed on January 20, 1973. That moment really was very important for me, to visit a part of the history that I had already read and heard about, and to meet people who are relatives of Amilcar Cabral, without doubts of the best moments of my life. #africanism#knowyourhistory ♥️🖤💚
