We go to work hoping our days spent at the office will challenge us professionally, but in reality, living the 9-5 desk jockey life can be demanding on the health and wellness front, too.
Generally the blame lies with the way we sit at our desks. The issue is that we really aren't built to sit for extended periods of time.
Sitting at our desks for prolonged periods of time causes us to hunch forward where our neck protrudes, and where our eyes are continuously strained. This stress goes through the whole body.
So here's 5 common types of desk-related injuries to look out and be aware of:
1️⃣ lower back pain
2️⃣ wrist strain
3️⃣ neck and shoulder pain
4️⃣ eye strain
5️⃣ tight hips
Stretching and frequent movement can assist in relieving tension and avoiding pain.

Have lower back pain? 😫
You may find your lower back aches because you're sitting too long. Any position for too long isn't going to be good on your body, but it's common that due to the nature of most of our work (and poor posture) that our lower back gets rounded.
What to do?! 👉🏻 Move more!
You need to move more, and take the back the opposite direction. Give it some love! Many many people find relief with this basic exercise. Just like if you flexed your arm all day, you should take it the other direction, the spine is no different!

With summer right around the corner, I thought I'd get some more art in before the summer break arrives, as well as a bit of background and perspective practice while I'm at it. This December at Ideanthro Movement we are running our school holiday movement challenge for ages 10 to 14.
Over five daily 1.5hr sessions from Dec 16th to Dec 20th children and teens will: * Learn real world physical skills like balance, jumping, climbing and more. * Develop the ability to assess a challenging physical task and safely complete it. * Learn breathing exercises for managing stress. * Practice teamwork and group problem solving.
The Ideanthro School Holiday Movement Challenge is suitable for ages 10 to 14 (please contact us for options if your child does not fit into this age range). The challenge is suitable for all abilities and is will be held at our gym in Oxley.
