En este puente hemos hecho un poco de turismo local. El viernes fuimos a las riberas de Castronuño-Vega del Duero. Hay una ruta muy chula y tranquila donde podemos ver garzas reales sunergirse para pescar. La iglesia es uno de los monumentos más importantes de la provincia. Cerca de la iglesia si bajamos por unas escaleras (ojo a la bajada y subida... cuesta lo suyo sobre todo al estar llena de hojas que resbala, tiene un desnivel de 40 m) podemos llegar a la Fuente de la Salud (un mirador al meandro del río Duero). También está el Mirador de la Muela (este sin desnivel) cerca de la iglesia. En ese punto hay mesas para picnic y un parque infantil para comer algo con unas vistas superchulas al Duero. Me gustó mucho esta zona y en primavera debe ser espectacular porque esta llena de almendros, asi que ya sabes, guardate el post para disfrutar de una ruta sencilla y tranquila.

So, our 3 kids took the train to NYC alone for the first time! 🙌
It’s only about an 80 minute ride, and Penn Station is the last stop, so they didn’t really need to worry about missing it.
Plus we were waiting at the station to meet them- though it did take us about 5 minutes to find each other!
But still, I loved that they had to depend on one another. 💕

COLORADO: It was cold and ❄️snowy❄️ this morning when we woke up in Nebraska and it made me ache for piles of snow❄️, hot chocolate☕️ and snowball fights with the kids☃️! But alas, we all still had to run off to work and school. 😔
This pic was from our last ski trip to Colorado. When we got to the condo in Silverthorne we bundled up and went outside to play. There was just feet of snow and the mountains and trees under the thick white blanket were just breathtaking. One of my favorite memories from that trip!

Last weekend, on a whim, we took the kids (including our 7-week-old) on quick trip to a beautiful mountain town here in Germany. We enjoyed sunny skies, crisp fall air, and inspiring views of snowy peaks. We didn't have much of an agenda. We just wanted to get used to traveling again, now as a family of six. We'd taken a travel hiatus during my third trimester and the first several weeks of our son's life, and we were excited to get back into the habit.
⠀
Things went pretty well, I'm happy to say. But in bed that night I kept thinking about the things I’d forgotten to pack that I’d wished we’d had with us.
⠀
I've read lots of online must-pack lists for families. My favorite lists include small, light items that make our trips easier for everyone. Even better if they’re cheap and easy to find!
⠀
In that spirit, I made my own must-pack list to keep handy for next time. I thought I'd share it here. I’ll check it before our next jaunt, and maybe then I'll get some sleep in between nighttime feedings, instead of kicking myself for forgetting things.

We learned so much at the National Hangeul Museum in Seoul, a museum dedicated to the Korean Alphabet.
It is free to enter and includes a good historical introduction, as well as some interactive exhibits and a kids museum area. The kids area didn't have any English translation but was still fun to explore.
Hangeul was created by King Sejong in the 1400s as an alternative to the use of Chinese characters to write in Korean. He wanted an alphabet that was created specifically for the Korean language that would make texts more accessible to people.
The museum showed a deep pride for the Hangeul alphabet, which was repeatedly referred to as the most scientific and beautiful alphabet. It was very interesting to see how the letters were even created to mimic the shape the mouth makes when saying that sound.

I don’t want to jinx it but I think we cracked the jet lag. Or we had one good night. Time will tell. We did some Christmas shopping today, experienced K-Mart. The UK needs a K-Mart. Basically a ‘shit shop’ where everything is dirt cheap. Check out my stories for our fancy trolly. And then we spent all afternoon in the pool. We’re basically prunes now but we od’d on factor 50 so at least we’re not burnt prunes.

Siquijor is an island with an abundance of beautiful waterfalls 💦 Some are more known and others less so. .

This is Kawasan Falls, not even our local friends knew about. One of the reasons for it to not be particularly well known is probably that it is a bit tricky to get to (our tip is to avoid it just after heavy rain fall or if you’ve got bad knees). But when you DO get there you will be rewarded! And chanses are you’ll be all alone, so if you haven’t had a guide take you there, you might even dare to go skinny dipping in your own private waterfall! .

This photo of a UNESCO site is cool for a few reasons. It was the end of the day. We’d already walked, all up in the highest levels of that Cathedral. The Wife insisted that we let our Children play on the beach for a few minutes. While I waited, soaking up the majesty of it all, I looked over my shoulder and saw the photo op. You might be wondering, “why isn’t this guy famous?” One answer is that about a million people have taken the same photo, many with much better equipment than mine. Looking back at it, the clouds really stepped up to be part of the composition.

Nachdem wir am Samstag nun wegen Beerdigung nicht zum #Adventsmarkt auf "unserer" Burg (wo wir geheiratet haben) konnten, sind wir gestern ganz spontan 50 km zur #Burgweihnacht gefahren. Und es war so schön. Die Kinder haben gebastelt, wir haben Rauchwurst und Flammkuchen gegessen, handgemachte Seife und besonderen Käse gekauft, mittelalterliche Tänze angeschaut und zum Abschluss gab es noch gebrannte Mandeln und eine kleine Karussellfahrt.

Some weekends you need to say no to everything else and go on a little family adventure! If you were following me yesterday you’ll know we were at Universal Studios for a belated celebration of Mr Wanderlust’s birthday. Let’s be honest - the kids were even more excited than he was but he is like a little kid when it comes to going on all the crazy rides that they love and that just make me want to 🤮 While going to a theme park isn’t exactly my idea of a good time, we managed 7.5 hours of awesomeness and fun. I I’ve been pretty down and out the past couple of weeks. Some kind of illness that feels like Pneumonia is kicking my butt and has contributed to my seriously tardy photo posting.

Conservation is doing just a tiny bit of research to understand where your product comes from, how it’s made, who it’s made by, and what purpose/value it’s going to serve you. It’s so easy to do what’s convenient but convenience isn’t going to save the planet. Get your kids involved when they are young and make a difference - pick up trash when you see it, reduce your single-use plastics, buy quality over quantity - reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose.

The Gates of Heaven. Heavenly, yeah? Sometimes I really want the shot... even though it meant a slow line. 3 hours. 🙈 We ran into friends from the hostel, which was a great surprise. And that beautiful reflection? Totally a reflection in the cell phone of the guy taking the photos. I remember when we sold all of our stuff earlier this year, I realized how much money we had spent on just clutter. Home decor, linens, like do we really need 15 throw blankets? We sold so much stuff we were able to fund 7 weeks abroad in Europe. We came back to the states to some tote boxes of clothes and keepsakes and the kids toys. We swore we were going to live the minimalism lifestyle when we returned, but man was I wrong. This table for example 😆 $3-$5 section at target and I have myself a very nicely decorated entry way table in our home. Something months ago I would have told myself was a waste of money. BUT buying a home and settling down roots here changed our mindset. We want pretty tables to come home to everyday 😂 i don’t think we’ll ever sell all of our belongings again to fund a trip, that was a once in a lifetime deal. But I’m definitely not attached to material things by no means. .

Have you ever visited a place on your bucket list and something like the weather caused you to not experience it like you would have thought?

That is what happened to me when I visited the Fairypools in the Isle Of Skye in Scotland. .

It’s Scotland, so you know it’s going to rain and be cold, even in June! We had a short window to see them and driving from Edinburgh was no small feet. It took a bit longer to get there due to the inclement weather and missed the dry weather by a few hours. .
.
Needless to say, they didn’t quite look like all of the pictures I has seen in my research and we couldn’t experience the caves and crystal turquoise water due to the constant running water. .

➡️ The Fairy Pools (Scottish Gaelic: Lòin nan Sìthichean) are a natural waterfall phenomenon in Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye. The vivid blues and greens of the pools suggest an unnatural origin. They are a popular place for wild swimmers who brave the frigid waters.
.
The habitat of the Fairy Pools hosts a variety of animals, such as red deer, rabbits, and sheep. The area is also host to a large number of birds. Large flocks of crows, ravens, and gulls are present in the area, as well as such smaller birds as meadow pipits, turnstones, common ringed plovers, grey herons, dunlins, and curlews. The physical landscape is predominately rocky, with some boggy areas here and there. The water in the area is typically cold, as the pools are fed by mountain streams.

The Fairy Pools are a popular location for walkers. It is about a 20 minute walk to the Fairy Pools from the Glen Brittle car park.

TRICK : how to turn a trip to the doctor into a trip you actually want to take
i recently busted myself on this one, so i figure it’s the perfect time to tell you all about my mistake so you hopefully don’t make it as well!
the mistake? making payments on my ortho bill using my hsa 🤦♀️ i know, you might be thinking, ‘isn’t that what an hsa is for, medical bills?!’ & yes...it is. but i was making my payments w/the actual hsa card, directly from my hsa account!
still confused?! well, here’s the thing...you can pay for just about all medical & dental stuff out of your hsa...but it doesn’t have to be paid directly from your actual hsa account & it never should be! you can pay those bills using a credit card & then pay yourself back, out of your hsa, which then in turn pays that credit card back. it’s so simple it’s crazy.
so now, as i make payments to my orthodontist, i am using a card i recently opened (which has a 70,000 mile sign-up bonus). so now i will get a free vacation just for paying my bill...why wouldn’t i do that?! so think about this next time you have to make a payment or payments to your doc or dentist...or even buy meds at the pharmacy or go to the chiropractor. make sure you’re paying w/a credit card that is earning you miles or points towards a trip. then get your check from your hsa account to pay that credit card statement!
i typically get my check w/in just a few days after submitting the request online & the submittal process maybe takes me 2 minutes. this is crazy easy guys!

A very reasonable 5 euro per day to hire a toboggan saw hours of fun -check out our stories for the sledding action! From up here you also get a stunning panoramic vista of the Central Alps & a local told us that includes 4 countries in one view - Germany, Switzerland, Austria & Lichtenstein 💙❄️☃️🛷⛷🎿🏂 Hopefully we’ll get a few more stunning days like this & we’ll be back for sure ☃️
