Keeping it real... and why life isn't always as easy as the quote on social media...
I wasn't going to post this morning. I'm broken in mind and body. I literally dragged myself every step to the gym. You see, two weeks ago my hips started 'playing up' (yes I realise this makes me sound 80 years old). And usually I'll do exactly what the quote says, go get a massage, continue my stretching and work through it. But this time is different. Two weeks ago every spare cent we had was being funneled into paying for medical appointments for the kids (well over $800 in 4 days). So there was no way I could justify spending $60 on a massage. And I've put on over 10kg since July which hasn't helped my hips or my knees (78kg is the magic number for my knee pain to ease). And now its got to my mind, my mean girl is on a roll and there isn't much I can do to stop her. She's the reason I now didn't go for a massage last week, and she will probably win the battle again this week, simply because I don't have the energy to fight her. Even the sunrise couldn't help my mood this morning, and now two of the kids have woken up sick.
Don't get me wrong- I completely see the truth in this quote, sometimes its just not that easy! #keepingitreal#broken#tired#endofterm#sickkids#exhaustion#refluxlife#migrainelife#asthmalife#EvenTheHealthyKidIsSick

Two of my kiddos have had a nasty virus the last week. It started off as a high fever, then turned into fatigue and a horrible cough. Both Hannah and Will were up coughing at night, crying and gagging. And for both kiddos, after the third or fourth time I’d go in there, I’d finally and desperately reach for this oil and apply it to their chests. And each night, they’d fall back to sleep and be done coughing😴. Don’t ask me why I just didn’t apply it before bedtime (no logical answer🤦🏻♀️), but thought I’d share this for anyone who needs it. I’m so grateful I had it on hand! Raven is incredibly helpful for respiratory support, is a blend of Eucalyptus, Lemon, Ravintsara, Peppermint and Wintergreen oils, and comes in the beginner box of oils. Make sure you have it for the coming months and dilute at first! And if you need help getting started with YL, shoot me a DM🙌🏻

You wouldn’t know it from this photo but we’re battling croup and ear infections this week 😫😫. I have my medicine schedule laid out. Another mommy tip- I fed everyone a protein packed breakfast with quinoa and veggies to start the day! Each kid has their own assigned color cup from @munchkininc to minimize germ crossover.
What are some of your mommy tips for surviving household sickness???
This is my little one last night after he got hit with a vomiting 🤮 bug 1am in the morning using our kids oils and sucking on a lemonade icy pole, they really help to soothe the virus and add comfort to him,
Using our oils all day today, and I can say now he is almost back to normal
So thankful for Doterra supporting our family naturally .
What a difference a couple of days makes. Spot the kids in the first photo... lots of toys, giggles and tickles just an hour or so before gastro struck! The second photo is after three full days of being horizontal in front of the tv. They must be sick! Luckily Mary is well. Fingers crossed they bounce back soon. #adventuresofwilliamandevelyn#addingmarytotheadventure#sickkids#sendfluids
Quite often I get asked..."Do you love being a mom?" I always answer yes!
Being a parent is hard, challenging, tiring, joyful, entertaining, but most of all rewarding!
Parenthood is a lot of sacrificing, its staying up late to pack bags, its reading bedtime stories and chasing the monsters away. Its saying 'no' a thousand times and answers questions you don't really know the answer to. Its comforting a crying toddler bc his Mister won't drive the truck just right. Its waking at every movement your sick infant makes to be sure they don't puke and choke. It's making sure the minions eat and don't share with the dogs. Its rotating tylenol and motrin every 4 hours so the fever gets under control and visits to the E.R to be sure your child is not in any real danger. It's taking off work to stay home with puking kids and buying all the things to make them feel better...and secretly praying you don't get sick in the middle of it!
Parenting is not any easy job or for the faint hearted. Its not something you can switch off like a job. It's a lifetime commitment to your children to be there for every smile, tantrum, bad day, sport event and all the milestones they will make through life.
I'm here to help my kids know right from wrong, the difference between good and bad and to make sure they end up the best that they can be. But in all this, they are the ones teaching me. *if you've read all that please take a second to say a prayer for our family...a bug came with the kids this week from school and poor Zeke hasn't been sick before this so he's miserable

Feather - rocking Raven and Lavender essential oils this afternoon to support the napping three year old and two year old while they fight the sniffles.
I freaking love these bottles so much. We’ve gone from having a very sick baby boy every other week, to a six year old who passes it overnight and two toddlers who re-coop in days and sleep through the night with nothing but #yleo to help.
⭐️All about kids! 🥰

Since posting about #iugr last week, I’ve had mothers from around the world send me messages. It was something that I debated on sharing, but I’m glad I did. These parents have gone through the same journey, the stress and guilt.
I’m going to share another part of our story, in hopes that it can help another parent as well.
When Ren was 10 days old, we were meeting with a lactation consultant to give us some help with his underdeveloped sucking reflex. While we were there, I mentioned to her that I felt uneasy about something he did the night prior. I told her how he completely froze, zoned out, and stiffened for about 4 minutes, and it just wasn’t sitting right with me. As a retired NICU nurse, she also didn’t feel good about it and mentioned it to the paediatrician on call. That doctor came to check him out, asked questions, and left to make a phone call. She returned to tell me that a team of specialists was coming via ambulance to take us to Sick Kids children’s hospital. While we were waiting, and as I held my baby down, she inserted a catheter, drew blood, and placed an IV into his tiny newborn hand. She told me she believed he had a seizure, and saw him zone out again.
With lights and sirens, we flew to the other hospital. They did a spinal tap, kept him in isolation, and told us the worst thing I ever could have heard. A stroke, epilepsy, or meningitis was likely what happened.
4 days, 3 nights, 72 hours of brain monitor, 2 brain ultrasounds, 1 catheter, 1 spinal tap, and every blood test possible, we still had no answers. They believe he had a seizure like movement, and he hasn’t done anything similar since. We’ll never know why he did it, what exactly it was, or if it’ll ever happen again. What I do know for certain, is that we made the right call to investigate as much as possible. That I am consumed with fear that it will happen again. That I had to be separated from my 10 day old baby while he was in isolation. That I will never forget his cry. That I still have panic when seeing any doctor, thinking they’ll take him again.
It takes a village to raise a baby, and an even bigger one to raise a mother.
Just when you thought that you’re baby is all well and feeling better. Nope 😔 Emilia started eating and drinking milk but we’re not quite there yet. 🙍🏼♀️ 🧸We saw the doctor today and she would need to continue her antibiotics at least two more days and take lots of rests 😴 Aside from the ear infection, virus, and rashes we also found out she’s teething. Poor thing probably lost a pound. We know she wanted to play but she’s just too weak right now. Dr said not to worry but of course we do and we feel for her. Hoping and praying that this passes soon! 🙏🏼🤞🏼
DIY Pedialyte! 🧂 Our little ones are more susceptible to dehydration than the general population, something I learned first-hand last week after Vander caught a nasty virus. 🦠 Oral rehydration therapy, or Pedialyte, is usually recommended after bouts of vomiting and diarrhea to replenish essential minerals. 💦 ————————————————————————
This DIY version is from the UNICEF guidelines on rehydration and is an inexpensive option over brand name drinks. 👍 It also contains the same essentials: sodium, potassium, chloride and zinc. We don’t normally recommend sugary drinks, but the sugar here is essential as glucose accelerates the absorption of both the water and salt. ———————————————————————-
🤷♀️ How much to give? Children under 2 need ~1/2 cup after each bout of diarrhea or vomiting and children over age 2 need ~ 1 cup of this drink after. For super sick babes, you can feed them via spoon or syringe- that’s how we fed this to Vander and it helped me to know he was taking it down. 💉 ***Please call your doctor if baby is less than 6 months old, has any blood, vomits for more than 6 hours, has a high fever along with diarrhea***
Mix together 5 cups water, 6 level teaspoons sugar, and 1/2 level teaspoon salt. Stir until solids are absorbed, then serve! It’s better to have this be diluted than too concentrated; excess sugar can make diarrhea worse. 💩 ———————————————————————- #plantbasedjuniors#sickkids#pedialyte#toddlerkids#healthytoddlerfood#plantbasedbaby#plantbasedtoddler#nutrition#dehydration#dietitian#dietitiansofinstagram

This man is louder than anyone I know, and he talks rough even when he is trying to whisper.
He is Louis Farrakhan’s protégé at 1:00 in the morning when I’m trying to sleep.
But for some reason our son just loves him! 😂
Life is full of surprises. Sometimes those surprises aren’t the ones you want in your life.
My eldest daughter Sienna had open heart surgery when she was 4 months old. There were some challenges during the surgery, which meant she also required a pacemaker.
Last week during Sienna’s routine pacemaker checkup, they asked if Sienna had fainted or seemed lethargic lately.
Apparently our 6 year old’s heart was (and still is) beating at half the rate it should be. Following some xrays we discovered a broken lead (cable) from her pacemaker.
That’s when the cardiologist pulled me a side to share that Sienna needed surgery ASAP.
It took everything in me to appear strong for Sienna when she asked “what are you guys talking about? what’s wrong with my heart? Am I going to die?”. Many of you have been wondering why I’ve been so quiet so I wanted to let you know what’s going on. I’m just trying to enjoy this little slice of summer while Sienna’s able (because there’s no swimming and a lot of rest for at least 4-6 after her surgery this Thursday). Thank goodness I’ve got a kid who is stronger than I could ever be. 😊. Talk soon all. Thanks for being patient, hanging around, and checking up on me. ❤️
My little guy woke up with a cough and a runny nose today so I thought I’d reshare this post (with a few updated pictures!). When your little one is fighting a cold, food is usually the last thing on their mind. I always used to stress out about food when my little guy had a cold but this is what I find works for us now; I incorporate all of the above and for the first couple of days I stick to offering small, frequent snacks until his appetite builds back up
🌟🌟Check out my E-COOKBOOK for delicious, nutritious & easy toddler friendly recipes the whole family can enjoy. Link in bio🌟🌟
➡️ Hydrating fruit - hydration is the most important thing to ensure when your little one is sick
➡️ Honey - contains high antibacterial properties & antimicrobial compounds to suppress coughs and boosts the immune system. My son isn’t so keen on honey but now he’s 2, I explain its medicine for when he is poorly ⭐️(no honey for under 1’s)⭐️
➡️ Turmeric - one of the best known spices for fighting colds.
➡️ Ginger - superb for inflammation ➡️ Garlic - immune boosting and has been used to help fight colds for centuries ➡️ Vitamin C - much needed with colds. I actually always used to reach for oranges but broccoli, bell peppers strawberries are also a superb source of Vit C.
➡️ Healthy Fat - high calorie, good fats are a Greta option as most kids lose their appetite.
➡️ Protein - nuts and seeds work well for us and chickpea pasta has been my go to. I break the nuts into smaller pieces for my son but for younger ones you can grind them and add the nut powder to other food. Hemp hearts are also a great source of protein. ⭐️ no whole nuts or seeds for under 5’s⭐️. .
I’d love to hear what you find works for your little ones 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
