Completed in 1909, the red-and-white brick Central Fire Station (aka Hill Street Fire Station) is Singapore's first proper fire station and was gazetted as a national monument on 18 Dec 1998. The station is still operational today and also houses the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery.
With little over 20 blocks built bit by bit over the past 4 decades (the oldest of which are Blks 1-4 built in 1975), the little sleepy estate of Dover features an unusual variety of HDB flat layouts and sizes across numerous generations of design philosophies. In fact, within the cluster of blocks 20-24, each block was built a few years apart with different unit types. Perhaps if I get a chance to, I'll do a more detailed feature on Dover Estate in future!

Once revered as an estate of the "chap lau chus" (10-storey HDB blocks), these HDB blocks in Commonwealth Crescent are part of a cluster of 2nd-generation HDB flats built in the late 1960s which stretch across to Tanglin Halt Road. Taking a walk through them today will leave you with a sense of nostalgia, the smells and impressions which for many of us are reminiscent of our childhood days. Don’t dismiss them for their age though – these flats still are prized for their location being close to the city and can be value-for-money, affordable buys for young couples starting out.

Accordion folds. One of HDB’s masterpieces showcasing the future of public housing in Singapore - vertical sky gardens, open spaces and multi-generational unit layouts. If you’re looking at grabbing a unit here you may have to wait a little while longer until the first units reach their MOP in 2020-2021. But be prepared...the upper floor units are likely going to cost you quite a bit!
