A Comet tank of the British 11th Amored Division close to the Wezera river (🇩🇪 = Weser). Picture taken on April 7th, 1945.
The Comet I (A34) was a British cruiser tank that first saw use near the end of World War II during the Invasion of Germany. It was designed as an improvement on the earlier Cromwell tank, mounting the new 77 mm high-velocity gun in a new lower profile and part-cast turret. This gun was effective against late-war German tanks, including the Panther at medium range, and the Tiger. The tank was widely respected as one of the best British tanks of the war, and even continued in service afterwards. The Comet, which was a development of the Cromwell, rendered the Challenger obsolete, and led to the development of the Centurion tank. When firing APDS rounds, the 77 mm HV was superior in armour penetration capability to the 75 mm KwK 42 gun of for example the Panther.

"🇷🇺 Buran programme" •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🇷🇺 Soviet Buran spaceshuttle ..on its first and only flight from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Soviet Union, Nov 15th, 1988. • photo via theincredibletide.wordpress.com ————————————————————————- The Buran programme was a project that began in the Soviet Union in 1974 ..at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute in Moscow. It became the Soviet equivalent of the United States’ Space Shuttle. [This] was is direct response U.S. Space Shuttle programme ..and the completed flyable shuttle was actually bigger and capable of carrying a crew of ten cosmonauts ..it never did. Soyuz rocket systems were used since 1966 and were the space workhorse for the Soviets to their mini space stations ..development of the Buran shuttles continued into the 1980s, when tensions between Cold War superpowers began to ease. ———————————————————————— By 1991 several test shuttles were built and nine actual Buran spacecraft ..but only two were 100% completed. One was destroyed on May 12th, 2002 when [its] hanger in Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan ..collapsed due to poor maintenance. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union ..the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activates in Russia, cancelled Buran in 1993 because of lack of funds. There were several attempts of restarting the programme with support of NASA and the European Space Agency ..last of which was in 2013, by then the remaining uncompleted two "Ptichka" second Buran class spaceshuttles were in serious state of disrepair ..and remain so. Both were photographed by @exploringtheunbeatenpath ————————————————————————- Since 2011 ..the Soyuz rockets were transporting U.S. and European astronauts to the International Space Station. The old Soviet/Russian space station „Mir“ ..that was launched in 1986, deorbited on March 23rd, 2001 ..and its remnants fell into the Pacific Ocean near Fiji, after 22 minutes. Soyuz rockets have had failures in the last two decades. Baikonur Cosmodrome’s outskirts ..do have old rockets and pieces of boosters systems which locals illegally scavenge to this day.

Revell 1/72 IS-2 1944
⏬One of my favorite tanks to build so far
The IS Tank was a series of heavy tanks developed as a successor to the KV-series by the Soviet Union during World War II. The IS acronym is the anglicized initialism of Joseph Stalin, Iosif Stalin. The heavy tanks were designed with thick armor to counter German 88 mm guns and carried a main gun capable of defeating Tiger II, Tiger I, and Panther tanks. They were mainly designed as breakthrough tanks, firing a heavy high-explosive shell that was useful against entrenchments and bunkers. The IS-2 went into service in April 1944 and was used as a spearhead by the Red Army in the final stage of the Battle of Berlin.

-- Stalin's Volga-Don Canal, Saxon settlers and the complexity of German-Russian relations --
Yuri is from the Krasnoarmeysky district in the very South of Volgograd. We met near the confluence of the Volga and the Volga-Don Canal, where he would often go for a swim right next to the biggest Lenin statue in the world. He still remembers when instead of Lenin, there was a giant statue of Stalin at the same place. It was replaced with Lenin in the 60s during Khrushchev’s thaw. .
Nevertheless, Stalin still left a lasting mark here, as the Volga-Don Canal, linking the Caspian with the Black Sea (its first watergate in glorious Stalinist style can be seen in the background) was one of his gigantic construction projects, realised with the help of thousands of GULag inmates, who had to work under pitiful conditions. In fact, lots of German POWs were involved in its construction in the late 1940s. .
As most Soviet children, Yuri learned German at school. He was later married to a German women (from the former USSR) and still speaks the language quite decently. He was over-excited to show off his German skills, to the point that he would make fun of a sales women for not understanding him. He still takes language classes at Old-Sarepta, a nearby village that was founded by German settlers in the 18th century, who had been invited to Russia by Empress Catherine the Great. It miraculously survived the bombardments of the Stalingrad battle and is now an outdoor museum complex with many historical buildings that constitute a copy of the village Herrnhut in the Oberlausitz region of Germany. .
Yuri was also complaining about immigrants from the Caucasus and how the riverside promenade - which has been renamed “Sevastopol promenade” in honour of the 2014 “re-unification” of the Crimean city with the Russian Federation - used to be so much better and cleaner back in the Soviet days.
Karl Marx was a German philosopher, sociologist, economist, writer, political journalist and public figure.
Jacques Attali claims that no non-religious thinker has ever had so much influence on the real history of mankind as Karl Marx — his legacy became doctrinal and moral core for political ideologies, theories and programs for practically all revolutionary movements throughout the 20th century.
A "Red Scare" is anticommunist ideology of a widespread fear of a potential rise of world communism after the October Revolution in 1917.
