This is what a baby red squirrel eating lunch sounds like 🐿🥰
Wildlife photographer and zoologist @daniconnorwild became a foster mum to some orphaned baby red squirrels after their mother was hit by a car.
She had been photographing a number of red squirrels that had been visiting her bird feeder, but sadly one of the mothers was killed.
Dani headed into the woods to look for the babies. Was she looking for the babies? Or did she find them unexpectedly?
Luckily they were old enough to eat unaided but still needed food and water to survive without their mother. Dani returned every day to help them and was able to photograph and study them.
This is how she captured this amazing footage and audio of one of them eating.
Slowly reducing the food she left out to encourage foraging and independence, the squirrels are well on their way to being independent, wild, red squirrels
Note: If you come across a baby red squirrel in the UK, please follow the advice provided by your local wildlife rescue or organisations such as Red Squirrel Survival Trust and the UK Red Squirrel Group.
