Third and final image in my winter Priddy Rings trio, this time showing Circle No.1, the southernmost of the set, nearest the road. Note the gap in the earthwork where it was bulldozed by the landowner a few years back to facilitate the creation of a motocross course. Admittedly, he was given a hefty fine for his act of vandalism but such disregard seems symptomatic of our apparent indifference to this and many other sites from our distant Neolithic past. I think perhaps the neglect is attributable to the fact that, after centuries of abuse by plough and hoof, these monuments are often difficult to appreciate from ground level. I’m sure if more than a handful of people had ever seen their full extent and drama, there would have been more of an uproar. I am fascinated by them - their imposing scale, presence and power - and would love to know what they meant to our ancestors, and about the rituals took place in them. The proximity of Cheddar Gorge, the most striking landform in England south of the Pennines, cannot be coincidental. And there’s a cracking pub nearby too...
Happy birthday to Richie Havens, born on this day in 1941. Richard Pierce "Richie" Havens is best known as the opening act at the original Woodstock, (with a memorable performance of "Freedom.")His music has elements of folk, soul, and rhythm and blues. He had an intense and rhythmic guitar style (often in open tunings), and he played soulful covers of pop and folk songs. He was born in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, and was the oldest of 9 children. He was of Native American (Blackfoot) descent on his father's side. His Woodstock appearance in 1969 catapulted him into stardom and was a major turning point in his career. He held the crowd for almost 3 hours. He was told to continue playing because so many artists scheduled were delayed in reaching the festival due to the highways being at a virtual standstill. He was called back for several encores. Having run out of tunes, he improvised a song based on the old spiritual "Motherless Child" that became "Freedom." He died at the age of 72, from a heart attack. He was cremated, and his ashes were scattered from the air over the original site of the Woodstock Festival, in a ceremony held on August 18, 2013, the 44th anniversary of the festival's last day. "Stonehenge" is the 5th studio album released in 1970, from Richie Havens. This is not one of his better releases, but you have love his voice, and message. He does an average job at covering "It's All Over Now Baby Blue." Overall an average outing for this legend. #richiehavens#stonehenge#woodstock

Quizá para muchos sea más desesperante la desaparición de alguien que la misma muerte de este. La idea de no saber que le pasó a ese ser querido puede ser un demonio aún mayor con el cual cargar. He aquí cuatro casos de desapariciones inexplicables.
¿Qué les pasó, cuáles son tus teorías? ¿Que otros casos merecían ser mencionados?

🙏🏻 The last time I was at Stonehenge was when I was 18 months old. Apparently I was wearing a yellow cardigan which got covered in flies. This time was too cold for insects tbh. Had the most marvellous time this weekend! All on highlights and thank you to @sofiatsoukala@fatinahhayat for the ride 💙
The Maryhill Stonehenge was the first monument in the United States to honor the dead of World War I – specifically, soldiers from Klickitat County, Washington who had died in the then ongoing war. The altar stone is placed to be aligned with sunrise on the summer solstice.
The Maryhill Stonehenge is a replica of England's Stonehenge located in Maryhill, Washington. It was commissioned in the early 20th century by the wealthy entrepreneur Sam Hill, and dedicated on 4 July 1918 as a memorial to the people who had died in World War I.

🇬🇧 “Stonehenge, in many peoples' minds, is the most mysterious place in the world. This set of stones laid out in concentric rings and horseshoe shapes on the empty Salisbury Plain, is, at the age of 4,000 years, one of the oldest, and certainly best preserved, megalithic (ancient stone) structures on Earth.” . I mean, that’s pretty awesome! Even the kids thought it was cool! I didn’t expect that! .
