Even I have my limits. So freaken hot ... too soon. My body is running about 5 degrees hotter thanks to the big M. I feel like I’m in an inferno. Only 4-5 months to go till it cools down again. 😳🥵 #summerinthedesert#internalcombustion
when you live in the desert and its been between 100 and 119 degrees all summer...and it finally drops to 85- thats when its officially BOOT WEATHER!!!!
Although it did get back up to 100 by 3pm yesterday so boots came off, but oh boy what a nice change for half a day :)
I found these mushrooms on my walk this AM and wanted to show the kids (we don’t see these often here) ... so I ran back, packed a quick breakfast, grabbed the kids, and we spent an hour at the park on this lovely day. We also found the remnants of the cicadas, which have just recently stopped their summer singing. I try to squeeze in nature study as often as possible, especially when presented with these spontaneous moments. I’m not always the best at it (structured Mama here) but I’m trying! 💚
We took an early walk very near our house this morning at a burrowing owl habitat. So fun to see them today, plus a roadrunner and jack rabbit! It’s also getting cooler (finally) and was actually below 80 for a little bit this morning. 🌵💚

See? The tiny lizard? No more than two inches long, including tail, a new addition to the Vecchio Drive Lizardarium! We do not know who this is, because Frederick the Great and his wife Elisabeth had no children. A page? A servant girl?
dépaysement #wordsthatdontexistinenglish - describes the feeling of disorientation that comes with being away from one’s home country. It’s original meaning has somewhat negative connotations. Literally translated as “decountrification”. It’s interesting because traditionally for the French the sense of self derives from a sense of place, for which of course they were famously known for their brand of patriotism.
I’ve been thinking about this word a lot and how it has become more relevant in today’s global and somewhat transient societies - a certain amount of dépaysement is crucial for perspective and growth. Personally, I find the sense of immersing in the otherness occasionally quite refreshing: routine, after all, is the enemy of creativity. And as a city girl I can’t think of a place more decountrifying than the desert 🐪 #depaysement#whywetravel#travelmusings#womenwhotravel#summerinthedesert#visitqatar#filmcity#rasbrouq#alrayyan#dukhan#zekreetpeninsula#desert#summerinqatar#travels
The blow dryer. What I call any breeze in the air when the temperature is in the triple digits. Not. Refreshing. At. All. 😅☀️🌵
I’m wearing one of my favorite bodysuits from @myameliajames which is so easy for summer paired with a skirt, shorts, or jeans. They have some super cute pieces to beat the heat. Check them out!
