Class Party day today! Each student had to earn enough money to come to our party, and then purchase a ticket. This worked so well throughout term 3 and 4 as each student had a goal, and wasn’t just earning money for the sake of it.
Every one of my kiddos ended up having enough money to come to the party, which is a bonus.
Habt einen schönen Tag 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Side effect of teaching high-school English and children’s lit at the same time: You notice unexpected connections. Tonight, for instance, I realized that the Grinch bears a striking resemblance to another cranky, cave-dwelling monster who takes drastic action against his neighbors after they annoy him one too many times with their raucous parties. Too bad I didn’t teach the Grinch last year; ‘twould have enhanced our Beowulf unit. (What say you, @wolfshadow009@eaikman_1230 and @laniforeman ? Is the Grinch just a less violent Grendel?) #englishteacher#teacherlife#teachersofinstagram
One of my “whys” stopped by today, just in time for me to need some cheering up. Teaching is HARD y’all. I swear I come to work most days with bags under my eyes and hair lookin a mess. Recently I’ve questioned why I choose to work such a difficult job with so many responsibilities and then this guy shows up from my first year teaching here 😭❤️ This student always had my back when my class was mismanaged, and always was eager to learn. It warms my heart that he’s doing so well in college and that he came back to see me! The kids have always been my reason why and I feel so blessed to make an impression on them.
I call this “Teaching in December.” Happy holidays, everyone. 🤣 May the patience, dry shampoo, and coffee be with you.

DECEMBER BOOKSHELF 2 • Still not all the books, but 🤷🏼♀️ here we are a week before Winter Break.
I’d love to add more Holidays Around the World 🌎 books 📚 to my library. Any recommendations?!

I still have ornaments that I made in school as a kid. These special ornaments will be going home with our class this week to give to their families. Each piece of yarn was measured to the height of the student. Super easy and a great 3rd grade memory!

Nothing says I’m married to a high school teacher than chaperoning the Winter Semi Formal with him for a fancy date night...
There is no party or present at the end of your career for over working yourself. This year I have had to use sick days for medical appointments because doctors and specialists don’t work evenings and weekends. Read your contract and learn what personal, sick and family days you have. I promise your classroom will be just fine.
