We hit the roads 3 days back and it has been the best decision we ever made. We have seen the landscape change, met amazing people , touched three states already . Julia 🚘 is to complete 5000 miles soon and I cannot wait to share the exciting stories and experiences. Almost a week more to go.
Road trips are the equivalent of human wings. Ask me to go on one, anywhere. We'll stop in every small town and learn the history and stories, feel the ground and capture the spirit. Then, we'll turn it into our own story that will live inside our history to carry with us always. Because stories are more important than things.
Way back in 2004-2005 when I was on the road with lonestar we did a string of shows with @rickyskaggs and he was one of the most kind and outgoingly personable people I had ever met. (BTW, is outgoingly even a real word?) We shared meals a few times on that run and I really enjoyed the conversations, which centered around music and our Faith. It’s moments like that that I miss about Nashville. Not much else really, but getting to meet and know your heroes was (almost always) cool! #rickyskaggs#heroes#musician#theroadlife#lifeontgeroad
WOW since so many people loved the post from Mount Katahdin I thought I would show all of you a Raw clip from the gopro. We are still in awe and feeling the physical abuse we took yesterday doing this hike.
Starting at Roaring Brook campground in Baxter State Park we hit Helon Taylor trail. The first few miles were STEEP, with a bunch of smooth rocks and bouldering. Then we hit the sumit of Pamola Peak, feeling accomplished, only to realize the challenge had just begun. +
Knife's Edge Trail to Baxter summit was the most intense and grueling hike I've ever done. The Chimney is a 3 story vertical ledge that you must scale down to a saddle and then scale back up the other side. This almost broke Melissa and caused a slight panic attack (I had to hold it together for the both of us 😭😂🤫) that almost ended our day there. We end up making it, then the trail grinds along the peak (knife's edge) for another mile. With help and helping others along the trail we made it to Baxter summit! +
After hitting the summit we took a slight break and enjoyed our accomplishment. Onward we headed towards Saddle Trail where we would descend down into the valley and past Chimney Pond Campground. Along the way we would experience wind, rain, thunder, lightning and even hail. Amazing experience and amazing accomplishment, I wouldn't change anything.
March 27, 2015 .. I remember Willie Nelson showing up during Merle Haggard's sound check and they were rehearsing Townes Van Zandt's "Pancho and Lefty" . As soon as these two legends were on the same stage, felt like time stopped. I remember taking it all in. I still miss watching Merle Haggard play his violin but I'm glad his sons are carrying the torch and also I miss seeing his bus roll in. As for Willie and the family (band, crew, audience), they're still the hardest working people still making the magic happen. *Thank to Jude for this picture* #TheRoadLife#throwback#WorkingManBlues#RedHeadedStranger#PanchoAndLefty

Standing at an immense 20,310’ ft above sea level, Alaska’s Denali is the tallest mountain peak in North America and third in the world.
The Alaska Range is simply stunning although my view was partially obstructed by spotty cloud cover.
Today I am grateful for so many things - Mike for being my biggest cheerleader and best partner in life, my brother for being my best friend, ALL the friends we have made on this “road life” journey...and last but certainly not least - ALL OF OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS for being the endless support system. We couldn’t chase our dreams as easily if you did not stand with us!! We love you!!
Pardon me as I interrupt the mountaintop and badass achievement photos with this: a realistic but welcomed simplicity of life on the road. After 10 glorious hours of sleep in the back of my SUV from going hard all weekend at the @ltraceseries 100 mile race, I awoke to the soothing sounds of trucks rumbling by overhead, a river flowing underneath and espresso coffee from my bialetti to complement my vanilla granola in warm tepid almond milk.
The past couple of weeks have been grand. Meeting so many of you at the Leadville 100 and @transrockiesrun_official, reconnecting with old friends, working with the talented @trappephoto, getting front row seats to witness greatness in @mackeydave1’s performance, sitting down with soon-to-be #LT100 champ @robkrar in a podcast conversation I won’t soon forget and too many more highlights to properly list here.
Now it’s the big push back home to LA before jetting off to the frenetic scene that will be UTMB.
But until then, I will sit underneath my hatch eating stale granola and relish the simple life. 😉❤️✌🏻
