Every so often I get an inquiry or see someone post in a FB Craigslist group looking for a “cheap” photographer. Please join be while I get on my soap box 😂. I understand everyone has a budget. But if you’re hoping for 100 gorgeous images for $50 - you’re dreaming! When it comes to photography, I’m a strong believer in quality over quantity. You will NOT get good quality pictures for a “cheap” price.
There are so many “behind the scene” parts to photography that perhaps you as a customer don’t see. Lots of $$ on upgrading or adding additional equipment, monthly payments for editing software, websites, external storage space, marketing platforms, online gallery systems, business registration fees, insurance. Hours of editing images. Finding locations for clients (when I live 1.5 hours from where the majority of where my shoots are and have 2 little ones this isn’t easy). And investing in my own education as a photographer to continue to improve at what I do and provide good quality pictures for you and better service.
Here are some things to look for when your looking for a photographer: -Do they’re pictures look cohesive and consistent in different lighting situations? -Does their website show you an updated portfolio section of the type of shoot your looking for and showing they have experience with what your hoping to book? - Is their editing style trendy or timeless? There’s no right or wrong answer with this one because people like different styles. - Does this photographer have positive reviews about them on their website or Facebook page? -Is their pricing reflective of the cost of living and area that you live in or are visiting?
Now photographers, you should be charging what you’re worth. You’re time IS valuable and if you do not take into account the factors I stated from the beginning you will struggle to keep a profitable business. Your pricing should be based on what you need to be financially stable and not based off what other photographers are charging in your area. Though you may be busy, doing this over an extended period of time will leave you burnt out, physically and mentally...

A storm had passed through a few days at Foster Falls before this so the waterfall was massive. We were about 200 or so feet from the falls and still got soaked by the mist. The blur on the top right of the image is actually water on my lens. The more I fall in love with God, the more I love this planets beauty. Thankful for God's breadth tonight
-I am early mornings and tea just as much as i am late nights and tequila. I am meditation and intoxication. I am flowers and concrete, fields of green and skyscrapers. I am a woman and a man dancing in a body that lends itself to adaptations.-
