This weekend was the time to make my monthly trip to “Kanaheri caves” situated inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP). The 2400-year-old Kanheri caves sculpted out of the rocky cliffs which lie within the park. Kanheri comes from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, which means a black mountain. The cave complex comprises of 109 caves, dating from the 1st century BCE to the 11th century CE, they contain Buddhist sculptures and relief carvings, paintings, and inscriptions. The site is on a hillside and is accessible via rock-cut steps.
To me what is the most fascinating thing about the national park is that it’s one of the major national parks in India and it exists within the metropolis limit. One of the most visited parks in the world with as many 2 million visitors every year; it is believed that the rich flora and fauna of SGNP is responsible for maintaining the ecological balance of Mumbai.
Best Time to visit caves: Monsoons/rainy seasons (August & September) or winters (December & January)
How to reach caves:
1) Various Transport options (bus, cab) available inside the park.
2) Take your own vehicle (of-course with an entry ticket of the vehicle too)
3) You may walk too.
What I recommend: Hire a bicycle, easily available inside the park and enjoy the 6 km of mountainous terrain ride :) It’s a must “places to see” or “things to do” if you are visiting Mumbai.
In the frame - Veg. Manchurian Dry @achijaofficial.
. . . .
Established in the year 1987 by Mr. Bharat Bhanushali, Achija has created a niche in the vegetarian restaurant industry and has established itself as a renowned brand in the entire Mumbai Metropolis. In its more than 3 decades of existence, Achija has created a high and ever-growing loyal customer base and today, it’s the most sought after and growing chain of family restaurants. They've recently opened their new outlet in Kandivali. Visited this place yet again and treated ourselves with pani puri, veg Manchurian dry, cheese garlic bread, paneer tikka, pav bhaji & watermelon juice.

SAVE THE DATE | BREATHING ON MIRRORS
Delighted to present our next show - ‘Breathing On Mirrors’ - where Anju Dodiya (@dodiyaanju) returns to Chemould Prescott Road after eight years with a preview on 29th February. Her last exhibit with us was ‘Room for Erasures’ in 2012.
About her new show, she says: “As if, in a monosyllabic conversation or mimicking telephone emoticons, I have confined these drawings to a minimal emotional theatre. Like the great German poet Rilke insists, the protagonist lets everything happen to her, beauty and terror.
The tension of the creative act is acted out on soft mattresses, hinting at the domestic nature of the ‘demons’. The charcoal is a stabbing device that conveys anger at the imperious world. The inevitable pauses are coloured ruminations, made while breathing on mirrors.”
Dastan-e-Maaya is a hindustani poetry and a storytelling show that delves into the valley of love and aazadi. With the heart to bring back the times of poets Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Paash, Maaya hopes and aims to spread Inquilab to unite the people of India.
Shivangi Tewari - Lyricist, Poetess and a Storyteller
In the months of misty Bombay, she arrived as a journalist in 2018, and a year later turned into an artist by the summer. After quitting her corporate job, she chose to pursue her passion with fullest fervor and honesty. She went on to become a Hindustani poetess by launching her self-scripted and directed poetry and storytelling show 'Dastan-e-Maaya'. As Maaya, she performed at some of the finest and pristine arts spaces and stages in the country such as Akshara Theatre, New Delhi, The Cuckoo Club, Si Bambai, The Jeff Goldberg Studio, Castiko Space, Mumbai, Lahe Lahe, Bangalore, August House, Jaipur etc.
She wishes to create an era where we can all be inspired from Faiz, Amrita, Sahir, Paash, Firaq to pour out our hearts through poetry and carry on the flame with incessant pride and truth. It's time to bring back love, freedom and compassion for each other.
