What a day to run a half marathon with my sister!
Jess and I were excited to get our first ever run in together and we made sure it would be epic! A half marathon along the Water of Leith from Balerno (near the source of the river) to Leith (the mouth of the river). We chatted the whole way about life and general shite, taking in a stunning scenic route on a beautiful day, we were so lucky to get the weather today. I've always wanted to do this path and it felt like the perfect one to add to my week long ultra marathon challenge. Running with my sister made all the difference too, before we knew it we were nearing Leith, feeling good, and sprinted the last few meters to the end! Got a brand new PB for my half marathon time (3 mins off) and my 20k time - wasn't aiming for it but was awesome to realise I'd done it.
Today's run is dedicated to my grandparents- Bryan and Liv who are a constant inspiration and endless source of love, laughter and happiness. They moved their young family to Scotland decades ago, a Welsh man and a Norwegian viking woman, and worked hard to make a wonderful life for themselves their 3 children and their grandchildren. Now with the next generation being born and my Grandad suffering with dementia I really wanted to do something special that connected the place they moved to in Edinburgh to the first home I remember in Balerno. Love you both so so much.
The half marathon brings my total to 92kms out of the 100kms today!! Only 8 to go and I have done this!!

Just the 2 of us at run club this morning. Which meant it was hard ‘cos Danny’s a good runner, and when there’s only 2 of you there’s less people to divide the talking between!
Great run though, all done by 0845 and onwards with the day.
I had planned to run with a friend today, but she couldn’t get childcare so I went the same route on my own
I’m a wuss, I always go the same route, near houses where I know I’m only a few streets away from someone I know
Today I ventured into the country on my own and I bloody loved it. Though I did get told off when I got home, because Ian didn’t realise I was doing that route solo, but no baddie got me, I had enough reserve in case I needed a quick getaway 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️
A throwback to last summer, when I was in the thick of Run to Reach...and spending most of my days away from home on one of the grandest adventures of my life. 🗺🙌
It would be a lie to say that I haven't been experiencing some level of an identity crisis over the last few weeks being now technically finished with a project that consumed so much of my life. 🏃♀️🌎
This account was created to share so many of my experiences from the last 18 months of crazy running, travel & exploration...and I've actually found it difficult to figure out how to pivot from here. 🙇🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
In the background, Ive been keeping very busy- using the skills I've learned through Run to Reach to support other amazing global initiatives (more soon on this!) & have returned to work more closely with one of the partner R2R NGOs (@sandblastarts).
Not ready to give up the adventure quite yet! The next few months will be filled with continued explorations : a month in Lebanon 🇱🇧 , Sicily 🇮🇹 , & back to Tunisia 🇹🇳 for my first 100km ultra!🦹🏼♀️🌍
Thank you for always being part of this journey with me. 🤍

The plan said 8 miles but the Strava route tried to take us down closed off roads. We just kept running and ended up doing 11.

11.5 mile walk as part of virtual @racetothestones virtual - only one more 5km walk to do tomorrow and then I’ll be finished 🙌🏻 been great to get myself moving again. @ilex101@emma_ac1 are you both nearly finished? 😊
Tempo run done!! 9 miles in the bag, my legs felt pretty strong but I had to convince my mind today, I did and I got it done while watching some of the remake of Aladdin, Aladdin is the first Disney film I remember watching as a kid, and I remember reading the book too.
I took Horatio to rugby and trained legs and glutes with @jenie23 who hasn’t trained in a while but smashed the session! It was nice to train with someone again!!
I’ve been baking in the kitchen, and I’ll share today’s and yesterday’s bakes later when the final thing has set today!!
Done 16 miles of London Marathon training ✅✅
First outing for New Saucony Guide13 trainers
I’m Also running for the Samaritans this month to raise some vital funds for our local Samaritan Office- get involved Smarathon2020
Did the Black Park parkrun route a twice with a few of the Run and Fitness girls and then went solo all around Black Park paths. Really struggle with all the stopping starting today legs got very heavy
Week 7 & final week of the Stopsley Striders Time Trail 5k Run. Well I was pretty baffled today when my watch was congratulating me on a PB of 32:18 (oh yeah!) for my 5k yet Strava was claiming It was 33:31 until one of my fellow runners pointed out I was running for 3.2 miles and a 5k is 3.1 miles. I googled it (saddo) and she’s right! For months I’ve been running longer than I should have been. What a plonker!
Joined the 6 year old for another 5 mile run. Yes I joined him, not him joining me. That's how far my running has slipped in the last few weeks. I finished the 100 mile week, and have struggled to get back into a routine of normal runs. Meh.
Luckily, Conker was there to drag my fat arse up the massive hills, while the 6 year old was chatting away the entire way! Not even out of breath, the little shit.
I love this picture ❤ The look that says 'we've actually done it!' #finishlinefeels
I only have 1.1 miles to do today to get to marathon distance for the week and I'm just weighing up whether to do it as a test run for my foot 🤔. I'm honestly a bit disappointed not to have run the 100k I had planned to this week but I have enjoyed my speedwalks nonetheless ❤
Stuck in lockdown Leicester (lockdown 2: electric boogaloo) so ran to the best view I could get to - Watermead Park. Love seeing all the green and the water and the wildlife so close to the city. Unfortunately, the mammoth isn't sticking to the lockdown restrictions so they've had to cage him. Bit harsh.
I’ve been before with my cycling buddies @michelle.laing and @tinalightbound but I’ve always followed them. So this was the first time I actually navigated myself there without getting lost. Quite an achievement for someone with an appalling sense of direction 🤣
Sadly the coffee shop at the top was still shut. The main point of cycling for me is to stop for coffee and cake so this was most disappointing 😜
What better way to start a grey rainy morning than with a shiny new pair of trainers? Not sure they’ll stay this colour for long though 🙄
I’ve got lots of different pairs of trainers I rotate on my runs to try and prevent injury from overuse. Some lighters ones for faster days and then these are my work horses - the saucony triumph ISO @sauconyuk . I wear them for my long runs and all my races. They really suit me with loads of cushioning and help protect my foot. This is the fourth colour I’ve got them in now.
Do I have a trainer addiction?!!! Is there a support group I can join? 🤦♀️Help please...
DAY 6 of VRTTS
5 beautiful, sunny, happy, smiley miles with my family on the trails 🌞🍃
I’ve been dreaming of a run like this for a long time. I felt like myself again. Off out exploring on the weekend. Like “old times” as they say. But better because Freya was there too 🤩💜
20.1 miles completed ✅ 6.1 to go!
Definitely feel like I’m running a real ultra marathon this week 😴😴
It’s DAY 5 and I’m ready to do the final stretch. 4 miles on the plan today and then 11 at the weekend.
There’s something really motivating about knowing you’re nearly there isn’t there? All week I’ve been physically, emotionally and mentally drained from being back at work - but I’ve woken up this morning with that Friday feeling, the sun has come back out and I’ve got a great podcast lined up for tonight. Might even do a little bit of a run 😬
This is my mum. She’s a runner.
I’m 38 and the youngest of four so you can guess her age. Like a lot of people, she started running during lockdown. Or, as she calls it, ‘jiggy jogging’.
Downloads of the Couch to 5k app have almost doubled on this time last year. It’s brilliant that so many people have taken up running but I’m particularly happy that my mum has.
I’m looking forward to doing a @parkrunuk with my mum once they’re back up and running. She’s up to 2.5k without stopping (or one lap of the rowing lake), so we’re on our way.
I am exhausted!
Day 3 of #VRTTS
Day 3 of returning to work
Day 3 of seeing my 👶🏼 less
It’s a lot to adjust to and I’m trying to be kind to myself. I’m walking most of my miles and that’s okay. I tried some slow running yesterday and it felt good. I wasn’t feeling it tonight so I didn’t 🤷🏼♀️
The virtual challenge has come at a perfect time for me really. Because this week, more than ever, I need to get out of the house and have some headspace.
I have been listening to @happymumhappybaby and Clemmie Hooper’s birth stories. Both very “mummsy” but that’s the spot I’m in right now so they’re helping.
No miles planned tomorrow so I’m hoping to find time for some strength work and some yoga. I definitely underestimated how much free time I had before. I’m scrambling for 5 minutes now!
Hope you’re all having good weeks too. Can we have some sunshine back please?
