The Eiffel Tower is the most famous monument in Paris, known throughout the world as a symbol of France and was realized for the sole purpose of celebrating the Universal Exposition, held in Paris in 1889. Work on the Eiffel Tower began on 26 January 1887; it was inaugurated on 31 March 1889, after just two years, two months and five days of work. It was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel, known to have built the internal structure of the Statue of Liberty in New York. In the second half of the 19th century, new materials such as iron, cast iron, glass and concrete which allowed solutions and results previously unthinkable. With these new materials were designed private and public buildings, exhibition halls, railway stations and bridges of great functionality. Soon after the realization of the Eiffel Tower, harsh criticism arose. A group of French intellectuals signed a letter of protest in which they called the building useless and monstrous building and it was required the demolition. The Eiffel Tower hasn't precise function other than to demonstrate the holding possibilities that can reach an iron building, even of very high heights, in fact reaches 320 meters high and remained the tallest building in the world until 1930. The Eiffel Tower rests on four pylons, stopped in concrete foundations, which connect at the top forming a single structure. The shape of the building is calculated to resist the action of the wind; the Eiffel Tower haven't continuous surfaces, but a dense texture of assembled elements. Its curvilinear profile ends, at the top, in a platform. The dominant element is the line, which helps to mark the vertical course of the whole. Only two large square terraces interrupt the continuity of vertical pylons. The Eiffel Tower is divided into three levels open to the public, reachable either by means of two transparent elevators or by climbing the 1665 steps. On the third level Gustave Eiffel realized an apartment in which to receive guests: today there are the wax statues of Eiffel together with Thomas Edison and his daug Claire during the meetin of 1889. #toureiffel#Paris#France 🇨🇵 #instatravel#travel_in_to_the_world

Looking through photos last night and saw this was exactly from four years ago today, during a long and exhausting walk along the river Seine. It was a superbly visual day and I remember taking this shot like it was yesterday.
Truly shocked that we are already half way through the year. For most of us, 2020 has been a rough year so far, but let's be kind to each other, and I hope we all get through this.
Je veux d'l'amour, d'la joie, de la bonne humeur! 🇫🇷❤️ #tbt
