...at a Subway Entrance of a Subway Station in London, without a recognisable sign! No, this post is about the Subway itself, but about the Sign above it!
Just beside the Tower of London is a Subway going under the main road to the Subway (Tube) Station of Tower Hill, but can you make out the mistake in the Roundel Sign?
If you are an Ultra-Tube Nerd, it will take you less than a second to spot it, but as for the rest of us, it is not easy to figure out that the Roundel Sign is NOT in Johnston Font!
Johnston Font is the Official Corporate Typeface for @londonundergroundofficial and @transportforlondon , and the typeface is used Almost everywhere in Transport in London - in every sign, roundel, station, etc.! This is one of the very few places where you can find a Roundel that is not in Johnston Font! I have edited it in Johnston to show you how it should actually be and look like!
Not to be confused with The Tower Subway - which was the World’s First Tube Railway in 1869 (not the City & South London Railway of 1890 as people are often mistaken!)! I will be posting about it sometime in the future too!
There are a few more places where you can spot a Roundel without a Johnston Font...do you know of any?
Let’s start by using the Hashtag #NoJohnston ! Happy Hunting 🙂
"The ravens are fed twice a day by our Ravenmaster and dine on a special diet of mice, chicks, rats and assorted raw meats. As a special treat, they are given biscuits soaked in blood." - ten chwilę po zrobieniu zdjęcia nie pogardził jednak jakimś smakołykiem wywleczonym sprawnie z kosza, a następnie plastikowego opakowania;) #raven#toweroflondon#london
#DidYouKnow that 2 Squadron of the Honourable Artillery Company uses a top button from the 10th Royal Hussars? This is to commemorate the bond forged between the HAC and 10RH during the battles of El-Alamein and El-Hamma in North Africa during the Second World War. The practice takes place every time they perform a Gun Salute for The Prince of Wales’s birthday as the occasion is designated to them every year.
The lineage of the 10th Royal Hussars now lives on through the King’s Royal Hussars Regiment.

Here in the UK poppies have become ubiquitous as symbols of remembrance. But how else do we remember those lost to global conflict?
In our latest blog HRP Research Leadership Fellow Megan Gooch explores the photos, medals and other artefacts we use to commemorate the lives of family members and ancestors - link in bio.

These hearts were woven of human joys and cares, Washed marvellously with sorrow, swift to mirth.
The years had given them kindness. Dawn was theirs, And sunset, and the colours of the earth.
These had seen movement, and heard music; known Slumber and waking; loved; gone proudly friended;
Felt the quick stir of wonder; sat alone; Touched flowers and furs and cheeks. All this is ended.

Remember, remember the 5th of November… 💥 Following his arrest and the failure of the Gunpowder Plot on the night of 4-5 November 1605, Guy Fawkes was taken to the #TowerOfLondon and interrogated here in the Council Chamber of the Queen’s House.
Most of the interrogation was led by the Lieutenant of the Tower Sir William Waad. Three years later, Waad had a large marble memorial installed in the Council Chamber, listing the names of the conspirators and celebrating his own success in foiling the plot. Take a look around – it’s pretty easy to spot! 👀

#OTD in 1553, Lady Jane Grey was tried and convicted of high treason while imprisoned at the #TowerOfLondon . Jane’s name can still be seen carved into the wall of the Beauchamp Tower, although it’s believed to have been left there by a supporter of Jane rather than by Jane herself 🏰
Known as the ‘Nine Day Queen’, Jane had been proclaimed Queen of England four days after the death of Edward VI. Masterminded by her power-hungry father-in-law the Duke of Northumberland, Jane’s accession followed the final wishes of Edward, as part of a bid to keep Henry VIII’s Catholic daughter Mary Tudor off the throne.
Just nine days later, Mary marched into London with popular support and imprisoned Jane in the Tower. Found guilty of high treason, Jane was sentenced to death, but Mary was reluctant to sign the warrant. It was the involvement of Jane’s father in the Wyatt Rebellion early the following year that eventually forced Queen Mary to condemn Jane to death, aged just 16.
